The Catholic Church isn’t a Rotary Club. This has nothing to do with “rights.” The church has an OBLIGATION to proclaim the Gospel, and to publicly repudiate those in positions of authority who publicly undermine it.
“Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.” (John 20:23)
Now do Joe Biden.
Thank you. I think I under the prohibition part (what so would call a “negative mitzvah” — the “thou SHALL NOT”.
The Roman Catholic denomination teaching on abortion is extremely similar to the Jewish teaching on abortion — forbidden unless the pregnancy will cause the death of the woman and child (e.g., an ectopic pregnancy).
So, anyway, I understand and agree there.
It’s the religious ceremony I do not understand.
A link would be great. I know I am probably asking a big question from a complete lack of base knowledge and don’t want to impose. I would do it myself but know so little I don’t know how to search for it.
A search for “communion” got me to a movie about aliens.
Under = understand
So = I
Stupid phone
While the Church expects members of the faith to self-regulate and know when to deny themselves the sacraments the Church can step in and refuse to allow members communion if nothing else has worked.
Unfortunately for Biden, the current head of his archdiocese (Washington, DC) is a milquetoast Communist with an Archbishop's hat, but no detectable balls.
Holy Communion is a central part of being a Catholic. To publicly be denied the ability to participate is extremely serious.
About time any Catholic big wig takes a stand against murdering babies.
I was raised Catholic. Here is Catholic teaching in a nutshell: Commit all manner of sin. Give confession. Saved. Repeat.
Implicit in your post is the assumption that the decisions to react to American politicians is made in America and not in the Vatican
The decision to disallow communion to Pelosi certainly came from the Vatican
It mirrors the Last Supper before his crucifixion, when Jesus broke the bread during their meal, saying "This is my body which is given for you, do this in remembrance of me".
It is one of the main Sacraments in the Church and a very serious matter if one is excluded from receiving Communion.
C’mon guys. Lighten up. Don’t you remember that she said she prayed for President Trump?
Apparently, your Catholic education wasn't complete - to be forgiven your sins, you have to be actually sorry that you committed those sins and resolve to never commit them again. God tends to know the difference if you think you can just go out and sin some more.
The Catholic Churches leaderships’s inconsistency in the application of its fundamental teachings vis-a-vis American politicians is long-standing, corrupt and a function of a quest for power. The special relationship between the Catholic Church and governments envisioned Leo XIII’s Testem benevolentiae nostrae is in itself, evil. Please note how countries that have much higher percentages of Catholic citizens like France, Spain, Italy and Mexico have rejected this policy (and many of them used to have a church-state relationship and their citizens have thankfully rejected this arrangement). Personally, I have to agree with the decision that was leaked on the nature of the abortion issue belong to our states, and not to an unconstitutional manufactured law by court decision.
Well said.
Right! Who does God think He Is, telling people not to kill their babies? God?
Thank you for the explanation. Would she be buried as a Catholic, if she were to die in this state, I wonder?
To explain things more succinctly: it is a central teaching of the Roman Catholic faith that abortion is the murder of a human being, that being who was formed at the moment of the union of the sperm and the egg.
The Church has always professed this fact and Catholics who espouse abortion as an option are not observing a central tenet of our faith - and for politicians - or anyone - who profess to be Catholics yet promote abortion are in a state grave sin and cause scandal to the Catholic faith.
Excommunication is a last resort, yet Ms Pelosi has had more than enough chances to denounce abortion and return to her faith.
And no, “Catholics” who back abortion are not actually Catholics.

Well said. You only left out one thing, critical to Jewbaca’s misunderstanding. In the Roman Catholic faith the Church is God’s representative on earth. Denial of communion represents separation of the supplicant from forgiveness of his/her sins. It represents the supplicant’s failure to survive death.
It’s an appropriate price to pay for a person like Pelosi who is pivotal in a fight to legalize murder.
But you said it best....A Priest is NOT God and does not have any authority over anyone receiving communion.
Kudos to the Vatican then.
