This California U.S. Senate candidate has a reparations plan. Here’s what it would do

Deon D. Jenkins knew he wanted to be the president of the United States as an elementary school student in the Bay Area. At that point, there had never been a Black president. Jenkins kept his dream quiet. He said he wanted to go into hip hop or the National Football League, where he thought he could make a difference through speech and protest. “A white little boy can say ‘I can be the president one day’ and not be seen as a someone with a pipe dream,” Jenkins said in an interview. “But if a Black little boy says he wants to be president, then he’s ostracized.”

His campaign centers on reparations for Black descendants of enslaved people through a four-pronged plan he developed in 2018 called “D.M.L.G.,” or “Defense, Money, Land, Grants.” It includes a $3.1 million check.

Sounds fair to me

A black president was elected to the United States and they still find fault with white people when it was WHITE people who elected him.

This California U.S. Senate candidate has a reparations plan.

Rather see a separations plan as in Cali separates from the rest of the US.

Jenkins’ plan would offer each person the storied 40 acres, a Civil War promise that was reversed by former President Andrew Johnson, for “land” by allocating unused space and, in some cases, using eminent domain, which allows the government to take over private property with compensation for public use.

Straight-up stealing.

Zimbabwe, redux.

People keep bringing up “40 acres and a mule” like it was some sort of formal promise that the government reneged on. In reality it was a Special Field Order generated by General Sherman for the area controlled by his army and it never had the official backing of the US government. It was never judged to be constitutional.

Yes, that and the Morrill act, passed in 1862, did allow people to claim 40 acres in unsettled territories (mainly what is now the Dakotas, Nebraska, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and parts of Washington) on the condition that they improve it and turn it into productive farmland. Additional acreage was available for tree claims or purchase after the railroad land grants during the Grant administration.

There weren't enough takers for even the 40 acres, so the creditors of the railroads sent agents to the Northern Europe and even the Ukraine (Germans from Russia) to recruit people to move here.

A handful of former slaves tried their hand at farming here as well. A few of the hardier ones became cowboys and the like, but most found the climate too ill-suited to what they were used to in the former Confederate States.

Roosevelt did nothing to close the Concentration camps during WW2. Because of that, I lost family. Where are my reparations.

After a DNA test, those with white genes are excluded from any other reparations.

Deon looks as though he may have a few “issues”. I can see why he wants to be a politician rather than a hip hoppper. How will these ‘reparations’ recipients prove that they are “decendants” of slaves? Whitey is dumber than he looks if he buys this crap. Millions of the Africans living in America today came here as starving ‘refugees’ just trying to get the hell Straight Out of Africa. I guess living in an ‘evil and racist’ America sure beats living in a third world port-a-potty called Africa.

There is a sh!t ton of Federal Land in New Mexico, Alaska, Nevada that is just sitting there.

I say go for it. Exempt them from all State and Federal Taxes and Environmental Laws (which weren’t in effect when the promise was made), throw in a mule, set up web cams, and let us watch what they do with it!

“Black” is capitalized...”white” isn’t. Translation: black is superior to white.

If we are to make reparations for slavery in the interest of compensating people who are disadvantaged because there was slavery in past generations by those who are advantaged because there was slavery in past generations, and if we are further to limit our scope to just slavery in the Americas, then we will probably do a very far from perfect job of getting the right people to pay the right amount to the right people. However if we are content making a crude attempt to make compensation, it seems to me the most culpable among us would be the Democrat party which historically supported slavery and no doubt benefited politically by support of those who were pro-slavery back in the days of slavery. And they are further benefiting today by falsely revising history to blame slavery on their political enemies. The most hurt by slavery today are those that the Democrats demonize and slander. So I think the best we can do to make reparations for slavery is have Democrats pay restitution to those they have slandered in the name of slavery.
