Ukraine’s military worked Tuesday to evacuate its remaining fighters from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol where three months of Russian bombing has left the besieged port city in ruins.Ukrainian officials said more than 260 fighters were evacuated Monday.
Fifty-three seriously injured fighters were taken to a hospital in Novoazovsk, east of Mariupol, Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said. Novoazovsk is under the control of Russian troops and Russian-backed separatists.
Another 211 fighters were taken to the town of Olenivka, an area also controlled by Russian-backed separatists, Malyar said, adding that the evacuees would be subject to a potential prisoner exchange with Russia.
During his nightly video address to the nation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the evacuation of soldiers from Mariupol.
“I want to emphasize — Ukraine needs Ukrainian heroes alive. This is our principle,” Zelenskyy said. “I think that every adequate person will understand these words. The operation to rescue the defenders of Mariupol was started by our military and intelligence officers. To bring the boys home, the work continues, and this work needs delicacy. And time.”….

"Thanks to the defenders of Mariupol, Ukraine gained critically important time,” she [Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar] said. “And they fulfilled all their tasks. But it is impossible to unblock Azovstal by military means.”
Last I heard, the brave Ukrainian fighters had pushed the Russia army back to the Russian border.
This is very strange wording from this journalist.
Why are they using the word “evacuate” instead of surrender?
These are all military troops who are surrendering and are now prisoners of war in Russian controlled territory.
Some of them may face criminal trials for war crimes.
Some evacuation!
In other words, the remnants of the Ukie force at Mariupol have just surrendered. Funny thing, those guys were the best the Ukies had. Look for mass surrender of the entire Ukie military within a couple of weeks, might have something to do with their officers fleeing and leaving them to their own devices on the field...
"Look for mass surrender of the entire Ukie military within a couple of weeks"I’ll keep my eyes open…

FROM THE FRANCE NEWS FEED: The European Commission has explained how EU companies can pay for Russian gas without breaching the bloc’s sanctions against Russia, in an updated guidance on the issue seen by Reuters.
The Commission told countries last month that European companies may be able to pay for Russian gas but only if they followed certain conditions, after Russia demanded foreign buyers start paying for gas in roubles or risk losing their supply.
In updated guidance, shared with EU countries on Friday, the Commission confirmed its previous advice that EU sanctions do not prevent companies from opening an account at a designated bank, and companies can pay for Russian gas – so long as they do so in the currency agreed in their existing contracts and declare the transaction completed when that currency is paid.
Nearly all of the supply contracts EU companies have with Russian gas giant Gazprom are in euros or dollars.
All this twisting and turning with the words, just to keep from saying ‘we have no choice but to buy Russian gas.’
But that’s all. After this, we’re totally serious about not buying anything from Russia!
“Why are they using the word “evacuate” instead of surrender? These are all military troops who are surrendering and are now prisoners of war in Russian controlled territory.”
Because telling the truth puts the $40B at risk. It still needs to be passed by the Senate.
“All this twisting and turning with the words, just to keep from saying ‘we have no choice but to buy Russian gas.’”
Not just buying Russian gas, but buying the gas on RUSSIA’s TERMS - the same terms that they vowed a month ago to NEVER agree to.
No joke, Ukrainian troops stole a border pole and smuggled it back in-country for a photo op. There’s video on Twitter of them running for their lives carrying this border pole they yanked out of the ground.
wow... thanks for the clarification... I got a completely different impression from reading the summary of the article. It made it sound like they just retreated.. Intentionally poor wording.
This was undefended area north ans east of Kharkiv. Elensky is not capable of moving artillery to this ground to threaten the railhead for the Izium front. The DPR is lying still as the last few days of diesel and gasoline is used. Then Severodonetsk will fall. This will be like a bankruptcy - it happens slowly and then all at once. Kerson has already capitulated without bloodshed. Once it is known the CIA funded AZOVs and National Front guys are not running around, Zapporizia (With its Cineses funded industries), Mikolaiev and Odessa will follow. I am not so sure about Kharkiv, as the Holomodor had a huge impact there, with anti Russian hatred running high.
...because the remaining soldiers are foreign mecenaries who used local uke’s as human shields....
Sober up and stop posting garbage.
Lol, sure.
Speaking with the show's host Olga Skabeyeva about suggestions some Ukrainian units were struggling for funding and arms, Mr Khodaryonok says: "The situation from the overall strategic position is that the Ukrainian armed forces are able to arm a million people.
"They're saying it themselves, that 'for us, there’s no difficulty in mobilising a million people'.
"The whole issue is to what extent they're able to supply this army of modern weapons and military hardware."
He says if Ukraine had no help, it would struggle to do that, but with foreign help they will be equipped in the "near future", massively expanding Kyiv's forces.
Mr Khodaryonok goes on to say the situation will "frankly, get worse".

That doesn't make sense, unless the Ukraine military did not rescue 260 fighters, but rather Russian military did the saving/evacuation.
But that can't be the case, because Putin/Russia are bloodthirsty villains.
So, explain to me how this article even makes sense, no matter how you slice & dice it.
According to news reports they are supposed to be traded for Russian prisoners of war.
Urkaine's Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said in a statement that 53 "seriously injured" servicemen were taken to a medical facility in Russian-controlled Novoazovsk with another 211 evacuated through a humanitarian corridor to Lenivka before being returned to Ukrainian-controlled territory through an "exchange procedure."

Rather than do any actual journalism, they just uncritically report what the Ukrainians said. Just like you did.
So for example the article you cite says they will be promptly exchanged for other prisoners. But they only cite Ukrainian gov as their source and do not bother to ask other side what they say.
But we know what they say, you just can’t find it in the western articles because they intentionally avoid saying it.
“The State Duma will prohibit the exchange of Nazi criminals.
The State Duma will consider a bill banning the exchange of Nazi criminals. This was announced by its chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.”
But you don’t even need to know that to realize the prisoner exchange idea is a farce. These aren’t random units, these are Azov, the same ones that have been doing war crimes for years on ethnic Russians. The same Azov that the US congress forbade explicit funding for because of their history of atrocities.
So you have been misinformed. Everyone reading these articles is misinformed. And it’s not an accident..
