Sweden has said it will join Finland in bidding for membership of NATO, after Russia's invasion of Ukraine prompted an 'historic' shift away from decades of neutrality.
Magdalena Andersson, the Swedish prime minister, announced the move on Monday - just a day after Finnish counterpart Sanna Marin tabled her own bid.
Andersson said the move was being made in conjunction with Helsinki and marks 'a historic change in our country's security policy' which has relied on a pledge of neutrality to deter attacks since the Napoleonic era.

Deny both Sweden and Finland membership into NATO. What additional security do these two countries add to NATO countries, vs. what additional mutual protection obligations would it cost NATO?
From what I understand, Turkey basically has veto authority (for now) over this sudden non-independence of Finland and Sweden, rendering the whole thing Kabuki theater of the absurd. Turkey is pulling its trump card based on the terrorists who have been finding sanctuary in Scandinavia. My spidey sense tells me this is all a political gain that will not result in any new NATO countries in the end. By the time they officially become NATO countries, Russia will have sealed the deal in the Donbass.
"I'm FURIOUS!!", he says in perfect English.

I’m not sure why the regime that controls our country wants war with Russia, but they do. It may be because they know the financial system is going to collapse and they can’t help it, or they want it to collapse, I don’t know, but they want war, just trying to not look like the bad guys in getting it.
Just as Barack Obama was America’s #1 gun salesman, Vlad Putin is NATO’s top recruiter.

Nice work, Vlad.

Putin brought this on.
Really. Do other NATO countries want Sweden’s muzzies, led by “Magdelena”?
Maybe they should trade membership with East Germany.
The whole idea of “defense” seems to be lost from NATO, and probably has been since the fall of the Soviet Union.

We should have never participated in the overthrow of the democratically elected government in Ukraine in 2014.
Why does the regime that controls the US have such a hard on for destroying Russia?
Russia wanted to join Nato back in the 90’s. Would have made great friends, very similar values and would have been helpful to stave off the rise of the Red Dragon, which is the greatest existential threat.
Who knows? We are going to get war, whether we want it or not. No telling how it will turn out, and we probably will never know really why it happened.
This story is following the plot of a spy novel I read once.
Sweden and Finland... Don’t they have like one or two airplanes and maybe one ship at the most?

Sitting in the middle, playing both sides would be the game theory best move while making yourself the provocation that starts WW3 would be the worst possible move, but I don’t know who is controlling those countries, I’d say it’s the same regime that controls the US.

Yeah. I’ll leave it to others to debate whether or not Finland and Sweden should join NATO. But Putin was supposed to be this genius 4D chess player. It turns out that he can’t even move a piece without losing it.
Poland has a ring-side seat.
Sweden has a successful arms industry and us well armed for a 10 million population country.
Finland has 300k soldiers in a population of 5 million. And these are highly trained and motivated having prepared for this for 70 years
