Doesn't prove intelligence has no genetic component, but upbringing really does count.
If your raised on nonsense such as man not necessarily male, then you can never develop rational logic.
Somehow you knew that was coming. Those stupid religious Christians in the US are dumbing-down everyone's intelligence.
To my knowledge, this is the first ever study to challenge dozens of separated-twins-with-same-IQ studies.
Intelligence is strongly genetic. Like 95%. And several % from being breast-fed.
Howver you can *reduce* effective IQ with bad nuture. Meaning - bad food and drink, not so much bad education.
For completeness - it’s also possible that the IQ tests used in this case introduced artefacts.
This reinforces other studies I’ve seen that culture directly affects IQ scores.
I’ve seen studies of US blacks in the German educational system.
They have much higher scores than American blacks in the US educational system. Difference is culture.
Whatever nature provides in the way of intelligence requires education in order to develop to the fullest. South Koreans are famously hard-working and serious-minded, including in the education of children. The result is a population that is intelligent and a country that is highly productive and well-ordered.
Yeah, but the California twin is woker, which is the desired result...
Methodology matters.
16 points difference for identical twins is BS.
And the results will never be repeated.
I read a ton of monozygotic twins raised apart studies in college. When there was a significant measurable difference, a little digging found the fly in the ointment. In some cases, the lower IQ of the two had a lower birth weight. Unequal access to nutrition in the womb. Others had a childhood disease that caused cognitive impairment. When raised apart, the less developed twin in a less nurturing childhood environment was typically able to "catch up" with 6 months of focused tutoring to even the odds.
“The twins were born in 1974 in Seoul, South Korea. One of the twins became lost at age two after visiting a market with her grandmother. She was later taken to a hospital that was approximately 100 miles away from her family’s residence and diagnosed with the measles. Despite her family’s attempt to find her, she was placed into the foster system and ended up being adopted by a couple residing in the United States.”
I think extended social/emotional trauma at a critical developmental stage is a more likely explanation than general environmental/culture/nurture effects.
The mind is just like muscles.
It needs to be exercised or it atrophies.
The USA school system has failed to deliver for the last 50 years.
I was lucky as my dad filled in the huge holes in my “public education”
The US twin had measles at a very young age. Depending on how severe the case was that alone could explain the small difference in IQ
One set of twins is an anecdote, not a study.
There are no differences in intelligence.
All people are exactly equally intelligent.
Al Sharpton has exactly the same IQ as Albert Einstein had.
All methods and metrics yet devised for measuring intelligence are both unscientifical and/or culturally biased, and all claims to the contrary are rayciss.
1) The most genetically intelligent baby ever is born in a Planned Parenthood facility and used for parts.
2) A bag of rocks is given the finest education ever.
Proof that being exposed to liberals kills brain cells.
