Four environmental groups that want the U.S. Postal Service to buy more electric delivery vehicles are suing to halt purchases of thousands of gas-powered trucks as the agency modernizes its mail delivery fleet.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday in federal court in California asks a judge to order the Postal Service to conduct a more thorough environmental review before moving forward with the next-generation delivery vehicle program.
Plaintiffs contend that purchases of fossil fuel-powered delivery vehicles will cause environmental harm for decades to come.
“Louis DeJoy’s gas-guzzling fleet guarantees decades of pollution with every postcard and package,” said Scott Hochberg, an attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity, referring to the postmaster general.
The lawsuit filed by Earthjustice, Center for Biological Diversity, CleanAirNow KC and Sierra Club could be the first of several targeting the Postal Service’s environmental review of the next-generation delivery vehicle program.

Ok counselor, I expect Sworn Affidavits by every member of all of these groups, including YOU Counselor, that NONE of you Own, Possess, Or utilize ANY Vehicle of any kind thatr uses Fossil Fuels. If you do not produce them by 9 Am tomorrow, bring your Toothbrush, because I will find you in contempt of court and sanction you the MAXIMUM under current rules. You will spend the next 90 days in JAIL, General Population
Because the USPS opted for IC engine vehicles.
there are only 4 subjects the ASS PRESS “reports” on..

Not sure “diversity” means what the think.
I will argue that electric limited use postal vehicles are in fact a valid use of the technology. Postal delivery vehicles all come home at night for recharging. In effect they are like electric forklifts in use on loading docks everywhere.
I oppose a lawsuit forcing the issue before it’s time however
It has always been a real shame that a fringe interest group can bring such leverage to bear on the rest of us. Here is just a continuing example of that travesty.
Postal delivery is one of the better uses for electric vehicles. The routes are predictable, and the amount of stop and start driving and the amount of idle time means that going electric actually saves energy.
I’m not a big fan of electric vehicles in general, but for certain specialty applications, they make sense, and this is one of them.
It’s situational but electric may not be a bad option for some delivery routes. Our guy stops at each mailbox along the curb shutting the engine off each time. I always imagined they go through starters and batteries like crazy. Of course I don’t really know what’s involved with EV maintenance..
How the hell do these a-holes have standing?
No Standing.....................
Exactly where do these twits think the power comes from to charge their batteries?
If these clowns think solar and wind can take over, just ask the people in North TX who suffered from last year's brownout what they think about it. Imagine what it would be like if those people had plugged in to charge almost a million cars.
There is no such a thing as a fossil fuel
Better yet, ask for a listing of their membership \proven\ to be US citizens (no $$ exposures) and how they correlate that number to a “democratic majority” of interested citizens.
If they can’t, well...that’s “a danger to OUR democracy”, right?
I’d like to sue regarding a long, long list of gubbmint actions that I don’t agree with. Who do I contact?
“Center for Biological Diversity has their fingers in every enviro lawsuit.”
I wonder who they work for?
