The Australian version of 60 Minutes recently aired this 17-minute segment about the level of apprehension and preparation now going on in Poland over the possibility of war with Russia. According to it, Poland is taking the possibility of a Russian attack very seriously. The military is exercising near the border, and is actively expanding and mobilizing. And also, ordinary Poles are terrified about the possibility of war, and are making plans how to flee if worse comes to worst.
I disagree. I am an American expat who has lived in retirement in Poland since 2007. Admittedly I live in the western portion of Poland hundreds of miles from the Belarus and Ukraine borders; nevertheless I think I have my finger on the pulse of what Poland is really thinking. I have yet to meet one single person who is at all worried that Russia might attack Poland next. I think Aussie 60 Minutes cherry-picked the most frightened Poles it could find, and falsely made them representative of Poland as a whole.
The first question is, does Putin have any interest in attacking Poland and absorbing it into the greater Russian empire? Theoretically, he might.
There are two reasons why Putin decided to attack Ukraine. One of them, in a word, is NATO. To Putin, but really to any competent ruler of Russia, Ukraine in NATO is a red line, just as Russian missiles in Cuba in 1962 were a red line to JFK. NATO is why Putin attacked South Ossetia in 2008 – to prevent Gruzia (Georgia) from joining NATO – and is why he annexed Crimea in 2014, after the Maidan coup d’etat overthrew the pro-Russian government.

Last century we had 4 two term Democrat Presidents. Every one was wishy washy and got us into a war.
Wilson... ran for re-election in 1916 based upon keeping us out of the war. Ended up in WWI.
FDR ran for re-election on the campaign slogan “No American Boots on Foreign Soil.” Got us into WWII.
Truman, finished FDR’s term, his second term, full escalation into the Korean War.
Johnson finished JFK’s term, then with the Gulf of Tonkin fake CIA fiasco, went full escalation into the Vietnam War so he could beat Goldwater in the election...
We could add Slick Willie as Number 5 as he created the Middle East fiasco that led to the 911 attacks...
It’s the wishy washy foreign policy that gets us into wars. Not the Trump, “We Are Not Telling What We Will Do” “but we will kick butt,” that keeps us out of wars.
My prediction is that Putin will enable Iran to attack Israel with a nuke. Russia will also attack from Syria.
Israel will respond with nukes.
China will step in to negotiate the “False Peace.”
This will happen well before the November mid term elections as an excuse to cancel the November elections.

No, it won’t attack Poland. Just stupid fear mongering propaganda.
Whatever it takes to keep support up for the State Department “regime change in Russia!” lunacy.
I hear Putin is hiding under our beds.
It’s only saber in its arsenal that is scary is its nukes - and its rattling them is indeed a concern - their last resort. But they know too that used of them is suicidal.

I do think we need to work on our nuclear deterrent. If Putin can so freely make nuke threats maybe we need to remind him what an effective deterrent is. Our weapons are old and Obama’s New Start agreement was a mistake having no mention of tactical nuclear weapons which Russia now has a 10X advantage.
And deterrence only matters in what your potential enemy thinks.
You’re correct. Russia is a dying country, that is White Christian Russia. It’s birth rate is declining. Putin really screwed the pooch on this one.
Invade Poland? Good God Poland has an army and an air force and centuries of resentment to Russians. The Poles aren’t going to roll over and right now Ivan’s got plenty of problems in Ukraine.
It would be like the Soviet Union attacking West Berlin during the Cold War.

Ukraine has shown the world how new, cheap technology is changing the battlefield. The use of cheap drones eliminates the need for expensive jets and tanks. They are essentially changing the new way wars will be fought.
It’s obvious that these drones cannot be spotted by Russian radar. They are flying them over tracked AA vehicles and are not engaged. Now, the 40 yo Russian cruiser, Muskova has been sunk. This ship was touted as the most lethal vessel on the water outside US carriers. Either their crews are incompetent or their equipment is crap.
