Will Russia Attack Poland Next?
American Thinker.com ^ | April 24, 2022 | James Nollet

The Australian version of 60 Minutes recently aired this 17-minute segment about the level of apprehension and preparation now going on in Poland over the possibility of war with Russia. According to it, Poland is taking the possibility of a Russian attack very seriously. The military is exercising near the border, and is actively expanding and mobilizing. And also, ordinary Poles are terrified about the possibility of war, and are making plans how to flee if worse comes to worst.

I disagree. I am an American expat who has lived in retirement in Poland since 2007. Admittedly I live in the western portion of Poland hundreds of miles from the Belarus and Ukraine borders; nevertheless I think I have my finger on the pulse of what Poland is really thinking. I have yet to meet one single person who is at all worried that Russia might attack Poland next. I think Aussie 60 Minutes cherry-picked the most frightened Poles it could find, and falsely made them representative of Poland as a whole.

The first question is, does Putin have any interest in attacking Poland and absorbing it into the greater Russian empire? Theoretically, he might.

There are two reasons why Putin decided to attack Ukraine. One of them, in a word, is NATO. To Putin, but really to any competent ruler of Russia, Ukraine in NATO is a red line, just as Russian missiles in Cuba in 1962 were a red line to JFK. NATO is why Putin attacked South Ossetia in 2008 – to prevent Gruzia (Georgia) from joining NATO – and is why he annexed Crimea in 2014, after the Maidan coup d’etat overthrew the pro-Russian government.

I don’t know why we’re assuming Russia is really at war with Ukraine.
——————-
Exactly. Putin declared his intentions in his war speech. If he was at “ war”, the Ukies would have been destroyed months ago. Much like our Congress, the Russian Duma would have to vote for it, they haven’t. All the talk about Vlad invading the Baltics and Poland is bad Vlad fear mongering, just like the Democrats saying Trump was a Russian spy.

Don’t get sucked in.

Many good thoughts on here. We will see if any occur. Many are wiser than me, but because of the NATO issue, and the control of the Black Sea, I’ve thought that after (if) Odessa is taken, then Georgia will be next. That would expand their shoreline of the Black Sea from Turkey (NATO) to Romania (NATO). I have a neurologist friend in Tblisi that tells me the hospitals have been advised that 20,000-25,000 single, young adult Russians have moved into the city in the last 7-8 months.

Who knows for sure? The ultimate plan is in the 6 inches between Putin’s ears.

No, he is too weak and losing Ukraine, so why make up stuff?

He can’t be all powerful and too weak to win at the same time.

This nuttiness around here is over the top.

It’s a very good article, well worth the read, but reading articles before offering opinions on it are not part of the FReeper tradition.

I started that tradition.

By your definition, Vietnam wasn’t a war either, just a “police action” like Ukraine

but in both cases cases, people were still fighting and dying

go ahead, play your silly word games

the misery is still there

Well, two out of three aren't bad:

“the Russian flag will fly over the Vatican”

“America will battle Russia’s secret armies”

He might if he is foolish enough. Then his armies will die in Poland.

Ukraine alone is giving him an ass-kicking he didn’t expect in his wildest dreams.

Russians are 3 feet tall.

Why?

Russia gave clear reasons why it attacked the Ukraine.

don’t think they will take Poland, or Germany, or France

France will be Russian ally, if LePen wins - as she is firmly in the Putin Pocket, having taken millions from him for her campaign

That sounds like the truth to me. After all, tis the time to generate fear and get people all excited over nothing, in hopes of making it something. For fear sells, big time.

Let’s be serious for a minute: totalitarian leaders love terror weapons. The modern battlefield is too complex for the ignorami that totalitarian states produce.

Just look at the armies of totalitarians. They goosestep. Pretending to be automatons. Wind them up and send them to battle. Here, look at the goosestepping Russians.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLihocVwUjI

How many of the toy soldiers are dead right now? How many of their wind-up tanks are blown up already?

Missiles are much better then mechanical soldiers. Just press a button.

Now think of the professional- and citizen-soldiers of Ukraine. Each one of them is capable of independent thought.

If Russia wants to be paranoid, it should look to Asia. China also has a goosestepping army. But, it’s five times bigger AND Russia’s army is being destroyed in Ukraine.

Au-rah your Siberian oil are be-rhong to us, round eye.

Yup. Russia has proven its army is a paper tiger and can’t fight its way out of a wet paper bag.

If it is struggling with the weak nation of Ukraine, it certainly isn’t suicidal enough to try to take on more - or the West.

It’s only saber in its arsenal that is scary is its nukes - and its rattling them is indeed a concern - their last resort. But they know too that used of them is suicidal.

We hope.

Pray for the Russian and Ukrainian people. They suffer ( like us) from evil, corrupted leaders.

"Russia gave clear reasons why it attacked the Ukraine."

Clear, possibly to Putin and to you - but absolutely false - Russia's only motive is to seize control of former Soviet territory and to exterminate any opposition.

The pay from Moscow good, Comrade?

Your opinion. Do remember, Russia ( as the US, China) has the means and ability to turn the western world into a smoking pile of rubble.
Vlad is operating with a huge amount of restraint….he is accomplishing his stated goals slowly ( by western standards), but surely.

Not likely. But if I were the leader of Poland, I’d keep beefing-up my military, just in case.

Nice thought, but the entire EU is BROKE. Trump even acknowledged that.

This isn’t about grain.

Raping and killing was going on for years. There’s a lot of things happening that people don’t know about and Ukrainian gov is now corrupt than Trudeau and Biden.
