You’re correct. Russia is a dying country, that is White Christian Russia. It’s birth rate is declining. Putin really screwed the pooch on this one.

Invade Poland? Good God Poland has an army and an air force and centuries of resentment to Russians. The Poles aren’t going to roll over and right now Ivan’s got plenty of problems in Ukraine.

Poland - YIPES. That's a no-go. Russkies would hit a buzzsaw there. Poland has a martial culture that has gradually expanded and become more sophisticated through the decades. The schools have a ROTC program on steroids - introduction on use and care of weapons and military culture at an early age. There's even popular military fairs that children attend where they can crawl around the vehicles, check out weapons and visit with the soldiers. Besides the regular military they also have a militia system of weekend warriors made up of guys and girls who train, train, train then train some more to not just get things right, but make sure they don't do it wrong. Sure the Russkies could do what they know how to do best, which is bomb/rocket/shell the place to rubble, but I wouldn't count on them being able to occupy it against a trained and motivated population with a viewpoint of old scores to settle.
