“We’re here today, because we believe in education, not indoctrination,” DeSantis said during Friday’s press conference, flanked by Florida officials and parents.
An important tenant of freedom in Florida, DeSantis said, is “freedom from having oppressive ideologies opposed upon you without your consent, whether it be in the classroom or whether it be in the workplace, and we decided to do something about it.”
The bill DeSantis signed on Friday provides what he described as “substantive protections for both students and parents to ensure that the education they’re receiving in Florida is consistent with the standards of the state of Florida.” Those standards do not allow “pernicious ideologies like Critical Race Theory to be taught in our K-12 schools,” the governor said, promising that tax dollars will not be used to teach children to hate the United States.
Every student counts, DeSantis continued, making it clear that the state is not interested in categorizing individuals based on race
We are not going to tell some kindergartner that they’re an oppressor based on their race,” he said, adding that they are also not going to teach children that they are oppressed based on their race, either.
He briefly addressed opponents who are lying about the bill, who claim that the DeSantis administration is attempting to stop children from learning history:
It is required in Florida statutes to teach about all segments of American history, where you have to teach about the Holocaust. You must teach about African American history. You teach about the institution and the abolition of slavery. You teach about the failure of the post-Civil War amendments to take hold and how you needed to fight for civil rights.

DeSantis is the best possible candidate for President in 2024.
PING!
I agree
It’s hard to imagine we live in an age when this is
necessary, and a broad section of the populace can’t
understand that.
Mind blowing...
Prog butthurt breaking out all over tonight!
.
I love this man.
Hope he runs for prez in ‘24.
DW was paying $163 million dollars a year for maintenance of their facilities. That expense will now be passed on to local taxpayers.
I really admire Trump for what he did and how he keeps trying to beat down the derp state, but right now my choice would be deSantis.
Is there some reason the counties couldn’t tax that amount out of Disney? Or are you just a troll.
Isn’t it also true that Disney was not paying taxes on their properties, because they were, in effect, the county government on their property?
There will be increased costs for taxpayers. But there also should be increased revenue for taxpayers. If not, then someone didn’t do their homework as to whether this was a good idea. I have not studied this so don’t know if it pencils out. If not, this could backfire on us.
Consider it an example of the law of unintended consequences.
We need a VP for Trump in 2024. I’m fine with DeSantis. But I’m ONLY following Trump, whether today or in 2024. Let DeSantis run against Trump in the primaries. That’s where the VP candidates usually come from.
A tenant of freedom pays month to month.
Disney and Florida have a year to come up with a plan…
I hope this doesn’t backfire, esp. for Desantis. I love him, but I don’t know all the particulars of this bill vs. Disney status. I know they have their own fiefdom there, and it’s grown hugely since I had last been there in ‘88 (“Magic Kingdom” now WAS Disney World). But I don’t know how this all plays out. I get a bit alarmed when it seems this was all drawn up in the last month…rushing is usually never good.
Right after Trump!
MAGA 2024!
A non-answer.
He’s either a troll or commenting on the wrong article, as this article has nothing to do with Disney.
