TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The Florida House of Representatives on Thursday gave final passage to a bill that would dissolve Walt Disney World’s private government, handing Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis a victory in his feud with the entertainment giant over its opposition to a measure that critics have dubbed the “ Don’t Say Gay ” law.
The move could have huge tax implications for Disney, whose series of theme parks have transformed Orlando into one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, and serves to further sour the relationship between the Republican-led government and a major political player in the state.
For DeSantis, the attack on Disney is his latest salvo in a culture war waged over policies involving race, gender and the coronavirus, battles that have made him one of the most popular GOP politicians in the country and a likely 2024 presidential candidate.

A theme park can't be operated year round in Colorado. Also Colorado isn't on the east coast. There aren't too many places that meet the weather and location criteria inside the US.
I was impressed they have two dozen original employees still working, now with over 50 yrs service.
Apology not accepted.
Keep on keeping on!
Us Florida freeper friends love the pings.
Bright spots in the world of gloom.
Thank you for the work you’re doing
I hope Disney gets out of FL. Many other beautiful options in FL for entertainment.
What is all this BS with Saint Walt? Just because he controlled his public image, everyone believes what he wanted people to believe about him. I have no proof of anything lascivious or immoral about him, but it is really not beyond belief that Walt was in the closet in those days.
He was verdant Anti- Communist, good enough for me.
His values were pure Americana. But, go ahead and slander a dead man.
Self Government.?? How in the world could such a thing happen in the first place..?
Leafy and green?
You DO know that DeSantis is the one who requested this legislation and put it on the special session agenda, right?
I do.
Disney is only a corporation. There is only so much losses they can take.
care what it would cost the people of Orlando, and Florida
In the very unlikely event of Disney pulling out, someone else ( like Elon Musk for example), could come into and buy it on the cheap and keep running it.
Thank you being the eyes and ears for those us in the Free State of Florida who are unable to get to FreeRepublic as often as we’d like, for whatever reason.
Little Ray, with the exception of a couple items you mentioned, I did ALL those fun things!
Wonderful memories!
My first trip to Disney I was pregnant with our first child!....( she’s grown with a child of her own)
Our children were taken often and they were allowed to pick out a stuffed cuddly at the end of the day to take home.
Disney WAS magical.
But I have no desire to go back
Yes, thank you Joe!!!!
I agree with you that companies should state out of politics. Unfortunately major companies run head long into government and politicians. Then with major investment firms such as Vanguard and Blackrock being major owners of many major companies, then Company’s management needs to list to the awoke Investors. So now rich individuals are working with major investment firms to push agendas and not necessarily profits.
Maybe they should stick to the entertainment business and stay out of polarizing political and social positions. Sticking up for issues like human trafficking or child abuse is acceptable. Woke stuff is not.
