Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) told activists on Wednesday that President Biden and his senior advisers are warming up to the idea of forgiving student debt, insisting they are closer to pulling the trigger “than ever before.”

Schumer, who has repeatedly called for canceling up to $50,000 in student debt per borrower, predicted that’s where the president and his administration will ultimately land.

I gues they really think people with masters degrees in Ancient Mesopotamian Environmental Studies are going to thank them by voting for them in the fall. Chances are the people who paid their bills are going to be pissed and will encourage them to vote too

Correct - dangling the carrot for votes and then forgotten.

My daughter and her husband paid off $60,000 in student loan debt in 3 years. They did it by only buying essentials and eating rice and beans.

They’re gunna’ feel like suckers if this goes through.

Does this include future debt? If no, why?

Probably because it's a scheme and only about votes in 2022

“Any private holders of the debt will sue and win.”

Doubtful. The courts rules that CDC had zero right to suspend all rent payments for a year and a half. But nobody got reimbursed a cent. And also, the lender would spend as much as the student owed.

We are beyond rule of law and we are ruled by presidential edicts and decrees now.

Not only is this unethical and unfair to those that pay. But this is once again highly inflationary. Now the US taxpayer is on the hook. The national debt goes up and up. We borrow more and more.

They are just admitting outright that the value of a college education in real terms is worth about as much as the stuff you flush down the toilet.

That means that the amount charged by the “institutions of higher education “ is inflated beyond all imagination. Parents of high school age children should take note.

Once again, you cancel student debt there will be no more investors willinh to fund new student loans. What are they going to do? Force investors to fund student loans after allowing default on student loans?

issues:

Taxpayers end up footing the bill. Who gave the government the right to steal from one group to give to another?

Schools have a new minimum Tuition level.

How does one limit new students? Colleges now have an incentive to sign up anyone to study! Grades? Testing? all out the window. New college admission requirement standards; Breathing and can sign your name!

My sons paid off their loans all by themselves. They did something a little old fashioned...they WORKED during and after they got out of school.

I paid off my student loans decades ago. Do I get a refund? Nah, they consider me a chump for paying my debts.
