Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky appears to have accepted that his country will not become a member of NATO, one of the demands made by Russia before it invaded.
According to a translation of his comments in a speech, Zelensky said that Ukraine had "realized" it would not become part of the Western military alliance.
"For years we've heard the opposite, open doors, However, it is not," he said Tuesday according to Ukrainian news outlet, Trukha.
"Our people understand this, and we are beginning to count on our own strength," he added.

Even after all that, the war won’t end totally. The DPR and LPR will likely continue low-level attacks for years, and eventually a new war will break out to connect DPR and LPR to Crimea.
It’s going to basically be Ukraine’s version of “The Troubles”.
Whatever happens, the West had better secure the neon refining facilities in Ukraine. USA is 90% dependent on foreign neon for semiconductor manufacturing.
It's likely that the Soros-backed nationalist anti-Russian parties in Ukraine were preventing Zelensky from reaching any settlement with the DPR and LPR separatists.
Similar to Bidet’s recent “limited incursion” gaffe (which actually may have been intentional).
BIDEN’s handlers NEEDED to have a looming war BEFORE he made his SOTU address in order to temporarily distract from the SCOVID Pandemic Tyranny they’ve embarked upon. We had days and days of “US intel sources say Russia will invade......by (pick any day up-to-and-until-SOTU address). It was an intentional goading campaign.
Yep, Belarus is the next domino to fall lol
I’ve actually seen that posted.
“Belarus is a warlord governorate of Russia. I believe for a couple of years now.”
I’d agree with that.
Belarus, then Moldova, in order to get closer to the strategic prize of Odessa.
‘winning’ Charlie Sheen style !
In the last 6 years of continuous warfare, they could not retake the Crimea, DPR or LPR.
They have had their (redacted) handed to them all over the battle field.
Granted they may have bloodied a lot do Russian noses, but.
At this stage, they have lost a lot of additional territory and had many of their major cities seriously damaged.
It is a very long slog to recover!
"For years we've heard the opposite, open doors, However, it is not," he said according to Ukrainian news outlet, Trukha. "Our people understand this, and we are beginning to count on our own strength," he added."Kyiv needs new formats of interaction with the West and separate security guarantees."
EU membership, and weaponry. Meanwhile, Putin has 2-3 years left max, and only if he negotiates an exit that permits him to die in his sleep in his opulent dacha.
Meanwhile intel all over the world is scrambling to digest drone warfare against an asymmetrical belligerent. Putin, proven over the years as not the brightest strategist/tactician (nor are his fecal felching FReeptard supporters on FR), has bequeathed a gift to his next target.
Thank you Mr. Chamberlain. Where is your piece of paper to wave? ;-)
Now, here it is in Newsweek, so everyone's good with it.
Well, that never really was the issue anyway… Putin has coveted natural resource-rich Ukraine for annexation from the start. With nonexistent US leadership to counter him effectively, he took advantage of the opportunity.
Excuse me Colonel, this isn't our fight. But you go right ahead and sign up if you feel strongly enough. Bet you won't.
I wonder how many of the Ukrainians approve of their mother country liberating them as hundreds of thousands flee Ukraine.
Putin Puffers will rationalize anything the object of their manlove says or does. Putin is evil, anyone not in strident opposition to him is, too.
It is indeed sad, that so many who consider themselves ‘patriotic’ actually align with, rationalize the actions of, and refuse to condemn the actions of Putin. Horrific.
