The shifting sands of Democrat gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke’s gun control plans have solidified, for now, into a pledge to buy back AR-15s and AK-47s from Texans if the state legislature will support doing it.
O’Rourke spoke with Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith on Saturday and KVUE reported O’Rourke’s comments.

It’d be nice to get a dozen people together in the spirit of Christmas caroling, and go stand in front of that house, and point and laugh.

I’m surprised he’s not offering free COVID Vaccines in exchange for your AR-15’s. Makes as much sense, in liberal speak.

Well, let’s think about this. There are a lot better options on the market now. If we get enough for the older models it makes sense to upgrade.

This is how all confiscations are started. First, offer <market. Then, if anyone bothers to notice, FORCE.

Well, I kind of think the Pacific Fleet might have had something to do with that decision as well.

He survived because his last opponent ran such a horrifically bad campaign the President had to come bail him out; leftists (and some here) think as a result that this indicates he actually has a real chance against competent Republicans.

Of course he’ll “buy back” privately owned firearms at pennies on the dollar in an attempted forced sale. Good luck with that.

The Japanese fleet didn’t actually have the range to get to CONUS and return at the time, with the exception of some of their huge submarines. That’s why they were trying to take the Aleutians, to get a base of operations to threaten invasion of CONUS.
In a rather grim bit of irony, given their later high fuel efficiency vehicle developments, the Japanese fleet had both low fuel efficiency and compared to their American counterparts, reduced fuel capacity. Their entire fleet was designed for a short but hyperintense decisive battle in their regional waters. To that end, they were optimized for speed over fuel efficiency or range.
The Japanese were *aware* of how well armed the US populace was as Yamato and other officers told them, but as with so many other things, the Japanese high command didn’t believe or didn’t care. In some ways, the Japanese high command had only a slightly greater grasp on reality then than Joe Biden does now.
