Alec Baldwin responded to the lawsuits seeking to hold him accountable for last year’s fatal shooting on the set of the indie western Rust, claiming he is being targeted because he is wealthy.
The Boss Baby and Saturday Night Live star made the comments during a public event at the Boulder International Film Festival in Colorado on Saturday.
“What you have is a certain group of people, litigants and whatever, on whatever side, who their attitude is, ‘well the people who likely seem negligent have no money and the people who have money are not negligent,’ ” Baldwin said, according to video footage obtained by CNN.
Baldwin appeared to be alluding to the movie’s head armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, and assistant director Dave Halls, who are believed to be the last two individuals to handle the firearm before it was given to Baldwin.
“So we have people that are suing people that they think are deep-pockets litigants,” Alec Baldwin added. “Why sue people if you’re not going to get money? That’s what you’re doing it for.”
Baldwin is facing a wrongful death lawsuit from the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was was killed after the gun Baldwin was holding discharged on the New Mexico set of the movie Rust last year. The actor has maintained his innocence throughout the case, claiming he didn’t pull the trigger.

He’s a real piece of work….as well as a piece of ****.
Miracle shots often bypass the thought process. The brain has all the data it needs to hit a target. Think long - hit wrong.
No matter what turns this case takes Baldwin will be haunted the rest of his miserable days. Criminality or not, dismissed suits or not.. gonna be a big hassle, like a disease.
He’d have checked if it was a suicide scene.
Well maybe the judge will shorten them.pockets..
Sounds to me like he’s laying the foundation for an insanity defense.
I know some people want to argue with me about who was "responsible".
But the moment you pick up a gun YOU are responsible.
Don't talk to me about what some one else may or may have not done.
YOU pointed it at someone. Another living human.
And now they are no longer living.
And that is all on you.
I knew that from the time I was a tiny child I was taught two things. Every gun I picked up was loaded and I was never to point it at anything living unless I was in danger from that thing.
If I could learn that at age six and be trusted with my own shotgun at age eight he is well able to comprehend that.
That he did not want to learn is all on him.
Ha...good one
His father actually taught riflery. I'm sure from the time Alec was a little boy, he was taught NEVER to point a gun at someone. I'm also betting that his father took him to the rifle range. He said he was very close to his father. Bet his dad had a nice gun collection, too.
And the second item I toss around is the fact that "RUST" is about someone who accidently kills someone. (The secret is in the script).
The fact that he co-wrote the script and picked out the gun he wished to use.
Would like to see the script that has the directions/notes.
A lot of us do care. We know Alec Baldwin has regularly supported depriving We The People in this Free Republic of our inalienable right to keep and bear arms.
We know this hypocrite believes he deserves rights he wants to deny us, regardless of how dangerous he is with a gun, especially since he killed a woman.
We know we live in a two-tiered justice system where Leftists often get away with their crimes and want to see that stop.
This government has locked up citizens for firearms who posed no risk to anyone but drove across a state line or had a magazine with more capacity than unconstitutional diktats deemed allowable, yet this man remains free and uncharged.
Alec Baldwin is among many Hollywood hypocrites who make fortunes selling propaganda trying to deprive us of inalienable rights, all while making movies glorifying shootings.
If there was ever entities liable for deaths due to criminals using firearms in the commission of crimes, it's Hollywood producers, directors, actors, and actresses who glorify violence while vilifying the sane, sober, moral, and prudent people who exercise their inalienable right to keep and bear arms.
Net worth is about $60 million
Good answer.
Weirdo.
He was the director and producer. Thus he is liable for all actions of those on the set. I can not understand why he was given a weapon and did not make sure it was safe. That violates all rules of safety.
I myself have been shooting since a teenager and am 73 years old today. I have a gun range on my property and shoot often. I also shoot with friends. When a gun is given to me by a friend although I have seen him clear the weapon I assume there is a live cartridge in the chamber. I thus clear the weapon myself.
My exception to this is when he or she hands me a weapon and says, “there is a cartridge in the chamber.” I then treat the weapon as such. He or she will make damn sure the weapon is on safety before handing me the weapon or they will not shoot on my range again.
Glocks are different subject as the safety is built into the trigger. I have Glocks and they are my number one defensive weapon. I do not like that feature in the Glocks. I much prefer a side mounted safety.
A 19ll is great. It has three safety mechanisms in its design. It will not go bang unless you really want it to go bang. To take it off safety is just a flick of the thumb and pulling the hammer back. I carry mine off safety at the half cock position and merely need to pull it back to full cock to make it ready. This takes a fraction of a second. It is a very safe weapon that is quick to go to full ready.
It is a big weapon thus I normally carry a Glock that is easily concealed. If out in the countryside I carry the 1911. Both are wonderful weapons.
Baldwin violated all protocols of gun safety. He as such must pay as the shooter, the director and producer.
No Alec, it is because you are ultimately responsible. You pulled the trigger. As uncomfortable, as life changing, as generally eff’d up as it may be - you, your actions resulted in the death of an innocent person. There is no equivocation, no spin, no laying off the blame to others. You pulled the trigger, she died.
malex, mebe you should be extra carefull, genius
I forgot to add this. Why in the hell were live cartridges even on the set? That is a no no!
And you pulled the trigger.
And you were the onset director and producer.
Yep. Plus, you killed her.
So, Shell Out.
If you’re not the one who shot them, who did?
You did what you did Alec.
Nobody else.
You killed someone.
