Ukraine war 'catastrophic for global food'

By Emma Simpson Business correspondent, BBC News

The boss of one of the world's biggest fertiliser companies has said the war in Ukraine will deliver a shock to the global supply and cost of food.

Yara International, which operates in more than 60 countries, buys considerable amounts of essential raw materials from Russia.

Fertiliser prices were already high due to soaring wholesale gas prices.

Yara's boss, Svein Tore Holsether, has warned the situation could get even tougher.

"Things are changing by the hour," he told the BBC.

Those who are not poor can still stick to what they always eat. Those who are not doing well may have to settle for cheaper alternatives they are not familiar with.

It’s almost as if George Soros planned it this way.

I started settling years ago. Then I bought some land. Now I'm working on growing as much as possible, including meat.

Drill, baby, drill. Grow, baby, grow. Mfg, baby, mfg. Load them cargo containers and tankers up and ship them OUT of our cargo ports. Luckily, we have an overabundance of b/s and chicken poop in America to fertilize our crops.

It’s also “catastrophic” for those who don’t need food anymore.

Hint-

Any trade restrictions go two ways.

Since we already have a weak economy coming out of Covid (shutting down) and massively regulated and managed by a central committee in Washington DC, this will only add to the inflation and supply shortages we already are experiencing.

The roles have reversed.

Today we are are the central state run economy, the secular/near atheist state pushing globalism and egalitarianism, it is us that is the belligerent and expansionist. It is a near 180 from 1980.

I'm staggered by the near complete lack of leadership in this country.

Where are the politicians working to bring manufacturing of goods, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, etc. back to this country. Two things off the top of my head:

1) Trump raised tariffs on certain Chinese imports. Why are we not doing this again.

2) I may be wrong, but at one time I think there was discussion of tax incentives for businesses who reshored their overseas manufacturing. Why are we not doing this now?

Everybody just seems to buy into this idea that there is nothing that can be done and we are at the mercy of Russia/Ukraine or China. That is simply not true. I see Jim said, drill, baby, drill. Yes, absolutely, we can drill our way out of this just like we did before.

Yes, we DO have a magic wand.

But here we are, a bunch of American sad sacks. A bunch of vidiots who have surrendered everything to whatever the idiots on TV say. Americans have been completely talked into completely losing their mojo, as if all the testosterone in this country has simply drained away into the sea.

Heartbreakingly sad.

I suspect this war in Ukraine was meant to start some time in 2017 or 2018 under Hillary Clinton.

Trump merely delayed it by 4 years.

Maybe we can quit using corn for fuel?
Manure is still used. Just not enough to go around.

This is the reason coming mid-term election should be a catastrophic loss for Dems. It is not enough, but at least the start. They don't give up their agenda easily. To them, it is their religion and part of their identity.

ABSOLUTELY. I’ve been thinking just the same. Hillary’s hatred towards Russia was worse than Obama and FAR WORSE than Biden. It was literally PSYCHOTIC.

We’d have already been vaporized at this point, if that bitch was running thins.
