A fire has been seen at a nuclear power plant in Ukraine after tanks opened fire with heavy weapons at the facility, footage in the early hours of Friday morning showed.
A live feed from the Zaporizhzhia station showed flames at the site in the east of country, having earlier showed tanks firing at buildings - sparking fears of a radiation disaster in the nation currently being invaded by Russian forces.
Dmytro Orlov, the mayor of the nearby town of Energodar, confirmed the blaze in an online post. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is the largest of its kind in Europe.
'As a result of continuous enemy shelling of buildings and units of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is on fire,' Orlov said on his Telegram channel, citing what he called a threat to world security.
Earlier, Ukrainian authorities reported Russian troops were stepping up efforts to seize the plant and had entered the town with tanks.
The shocking footage came after Ukrainian civilians defied Russian troops for a second day running in a bid to protect the nuclear plant. They were shown setting up make-shift road blocks in an attempt to block the road to the facility.
Both the Ukrainian state atomic energy company and Orlov said troops were nearing Zaporizhzhia. Officials said loud shots were heard in the city late Thursday.
'Many young men in athletic clothes and armed with Kalashnikov have come into the city. They are breaking down door and trying to get into the apartments of local residents,' the statement from Energoatom said.

For the love of God, please do some research before you post videos or comment on stories making the rounds on social media. We could be on the precipice of WWIII and we need ppl to respond thoughtfully and cautiously about the situation. Your posts are hyperbolic and emotional, and they’re contributing to the hysteria of the average American.

I decided to look at a map of Ukraine and determine the location of this nuclear plant. It is less than 200 miles from the 2 breakaway parts of Ukraine which are directly east. Also within 200 miles Crimea which is due south, parts of Russia which are to the east, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. The city appears to be on the main river which runs from Kiev to the Black Sea. So depending on which way the wind is blowing, the breakaway areas, Crimea, western Russia, or the Black Sea could all be poisened. If the Black Sea becomes contaminated, that will not be good for Turkey, or even parts of the Mediterranian.

The fire was apparently in a nearby administrative building, not the actual plant itself. See post 224.

I was watching Fox News earlier this evening and “explainer” Brett Baier came on and reported on the “nuclear reactors being shelled” by the Russians. As he “explained”, half the screen was displaying video of the “shelling” and gaslighter-in-chief Baier said “there goes a shell now”. The “shell” was clearly nothing more than a slowly falling flare. Of course there will be many who will believe that the Russians would direct artillery fire onto a nuclear reactor. Sadly, we have some of those gullible fools here on FR.
If it is actually on fire then who is say who is responsible for setting it on fire? Fake videos are everywhere, and the deep state would do anything to create a narrative.
I thought a fair number of people here were able to reason things out. After the Trump Russia setup that came from the highest levels of our government then I would think that people would realize that deep state is will to anything to create false illusions. They would certainly shell a nuclear power plant if they desperately needed to do so in order to blame in on someone else. They will do anything to win. They are already passing off video games as real war battles in the Ukraine. Also using videos and pictures that are invasion. Yet passing them off as current.
You would just think that a few more people here would be questioning the MSM narrative. Yes you are right that there are paid infiltrators here as on all forums who have the job to disrupt discussions and steer everyone onto the wrong track. It is all very advanced manipulation. Yet I am still surprised that there are so many people who don’t even question what is going on. It feels like mob mentality.
I am not totally sure what to think about what is going on in Ukraine. I am not totally set one way another. But at least I know that we can all be duped. So keep an open mind.
