After raising nuclear alert, Putin spoke to Israeli PM Naftali Bennett on Sunday...who offered to mediate in Ukraine. (Zelenski requested Bennett)

Perhaps you’re right..and interesting story I’ll add.

Still Im very much uneasy about Israel getting involved. I recall At Putins big parade Israel was pretty much the only Rep. of Western thought who showed up. And he was given the honorable seating next to Putin. My first thought then was ‘What are you up to Putin with Israel”.....though it was a feel good photo shoot people like to see Putin is always in the “on” mode, does nothing without a purpose to himself and his country.

Perhaps this might work....but it equally could not as well.

Frankly Putins griefs are understandable....and everyone knew if something wasn’t done about Ukraine Putin would. And here we are.

Thanks for looking. I did a few searches also but couldn’t find it. Maybe it will turn up someday.

The only people who seem surprised were in the Biden administration. I agree. Putin certainly has some points. But there was opportunity for plenty of middle ground that could have made both sides happy. (Well, maybe happy overstates the case.)

So were Hitler's griefs with The Versailles Treaty. But once he attacked Poland, nobody cared about it anymore. If anything now people will say that NATO was justified.

“I suspect Putin is shocked by the response of the Russian people. When people know they will be arrested for protesting and they do it anyway, that demonstrates a level of disaffection totally unexpected.”

Pure speculation. The only large crowd of people (over several hundred) that I’ve seen protesting, so far, is in Berlin, and I doubt that bothers Putin. As to the smaller demonstrations in Russia, happens in every war, no one wants to be cannon fodder and they still have a draft there. What I’m more interested in is whether they’ll be jailed for over a year without trial, as seems to happen in one ‘free’ country that I know of.

Wanted to come back to your Post and comment further....

Putin is vested in Syria a great deal and Syria is one of his allies. So it’s quite natural he’d support Syria on the issue of the Golan Heights. And frankly Putins been active in the past couple years courting Israel.

Keep in mind how Putin thinks....He was and is opposed to any country going in and taking out the elected leadership.....But isn’t it interesting that now he’s gone into Ukraine the entire global community thinks it’s not alright for him to do so after watching the US created conflicts in Libya, Syria, Egypt and other nations. Which they have done so.

“So were Hitler’s griefs with The Versailles Treaty. “

I’ve heard more than one historian blame WWII on the Versailles treaty. Even at the time one of the principles said something like, “I think we’ve sown the seeds for the next war.” But given the politics of France at the time it’s hard to see how anyone could have convinced the French to take any less.

“If Israel mediates both sides will feel like they were treated fairly. I guarantee it.”

That I do agree with. Both sides trust Bennett, and so that’s the simple reason he’s been asked to sort this out.

Yep, something like 2 million Russian Jews now in Israel, and Israel would not be bombing targets in Syria at will without Putin’s permission since he has S-400s there and they would have to be taken out first (and that, in itself, is no easy task).

Minsk was the middle ground.....Zelensky screwed that up unfortunately by refusing to put down the conflict in the break away states and giving them autonomy.....which it was agreed Zelensky would do. I blame this administration for it’s influence on Zelensky by encouraging him not to do his part...and refusing to talk with Putin for so long..... Again the Obama administration is still controlling Ukraines leadership to some extent but I think that’s now the tightrope Zelensky has to walk....however I think Zelensky wants to do things his way as he’s become Ukraine’s “hero”.......Biden himself isn’t really in the loop at all except for showing his face now and then.

Oh dear expect the prophecy watchers to … I dunno. (Where everything is doomsday rapture this or that.)

Whatever initiates respect for Israel is a good thing. Prayers.

The dust of war will prove one way or the other.....it’s not like the world leaders haven’t known Putin would play hard ball when pushed too far. 20 years of patience will come to a head as we see now.

I don’t look at Putin through the lens of the Hitler Days.....if push comes to shove frankly without Russia Hitler would have just kept coming and it’s often overlooked. But Putin is not Hitler...although he is certainly Russian in every sense of the word..of course.

The only nations who support Nato are the Nato nations and those too poor to defend their own nations. They are not looked at with any degree of respect and often seen as outdated for the times by many nations. Same with the UN.

I new there were quite a few Russian Jews in Israel....they’ve had many flights for a time there bringing them back to Israel. I didn’t realize there were that many there. Thanks for the info.

So it would appear since Israel has so many foreign citizens Putin might think Israel understands his positions as his nation is likewise varied...and his desire for security for Russia.....

There are so many Russian Jewish in Israel that some towns have all their signs in Hebrew, Arabic, English and Russian. Russians seem to have a big presence in their hotel industry.

Yep, in fact Russian is now an official language in Israel, along with Hebrew and Arabic (but not English). And it makes sense, since the Russian immigrants likely speak crappy English, no Hebrew, and of course no Arabic.

Interesting discussing this as I can see why Putin is interested in conferring with Israel on how they manage their country. they’re surrounded....he has Nato encroaching, they have many nationalities, so does he and Ukraine certainly has both Russian and Ukrainians. The similarities are really striking.

However the leadership in Israel and Russia is quite different in how they approach their circumstances.

I think this is what Putin was hoping for in Ukraine....unfortunately the Ukraine/Us leadership isn’t.

“However the leadership in Israel and Russia is quite different in how they approach their circumstances.”

Or is it? Both countries, now, have shown that they will take whatever steps they need to keep their borders secure. In the case of Israel, the 1967 war got things to where they needed to be for its security.

Well you are right about that. I’m hearing the negotiations have already begun so apparently Russia has agreed.

Both sides will have to make concessions....not so sure Zelensky will. He bucked the Minsk agreement after he agreed to it. I think if the US stayed out of it, (which they won’t and will likely strong arm Zelensky if they have to), this might have a chance for a reasonable end.

Time will prove what it always does.
