Is NATO strong enough to counter a MadPutin?

I doubt it.

This possibility of a response no matter how remote, is exactly why Putin has not committed the entire Russian army. Certainly his generals tell him that they have to be concerned about America and the other nato countries to the West.. That doesn’t mean we’re going to do anything but at least keep the possibility ready.

Maybe nato countries should start paying their share of defense expenses for a change? 🤪

Saw this on linked in…

……..,

“I was born in Russia. My family is in Russia, some of my friends are in Ukraine. In the cities, that are currently under attack.

Yesterday I came across an opinion “if majority of Russians are against war, they would’ve done something”. This sweet naivety made me burst into laughter. Which is, in fact, incredibly sad.

If you don’t like something in Finland, you go to a strike or the protest. Then you go home, back to your family, drink coffee and watch TV. In the best case, your protest makes some things change. In the worst, it doesn’t.

If you don’t like something in Russia, you go to a protest. You get arrested (and often beaten up badly in the process), tortured by the police, thrown to jail. In jail, your human rights are nearly non-existent. I spare you the details. For organizing or participating in protests you can sometimes get heavier jail sentence than for murder or rape. Even better, if you make it to the “extremist” category (which is fairly easy actually) - you are officially a state enemy. You aren’t really a human to the state anymore.

Yesterday there were large protests against war in Ukraine. Nearly 2000 people were arrested in Russian cities. People, who are very well aware of what would happen to them, still went outside to show empathy and support for Ukraine, to express the sorrow and fury about the war. People, who are still hoping to change something in a hopeless country like Russia.

My point is - do not get an impression that Russians sit quietly and approve dictator’s actions while their neighbor is being slaughtered. Right now the nation does not have power. Dictator has. Most of the nation struggles with survival, being in the state of poverty. Those who dare to oppose those in power, disappear under mysterious (or not so) circumstances.

That said, I am not asking for sympathy. After all, it’s not my home or my family who’s being under attack right now, forced to sleep in a subway. And all above said does not justify or try to justify the aggression. All I’m trying to do is explain that NOBODY in their right mind supports this war.

WE DO NOT WANT WAR.
WE CONDEMN WAR.

NATO “response” forces? Please. What are they gonna do - yell bad words at the Russians? You want to get Putin’s undivided attention? Put the entire nuclear deterent at DefCon1. Fuel up all our land-based ICBM’s. Scamble our bombers and ICBM-armed subs to thier “failsafe” positions. Then get on the “red phone” and ask ol’ Vlad if he would like to play a game of thermo-nuclear chicken?

How odd. NATO coming to the help of a non-NATO country.

Now something doesn’t seem right. Biden could never put together a coalition. I wonder who paid off NATO to help?

Nothing is ever as it seems with these people.

From Wiki (just interesting, doesnt speak to its lethality):

The NATO Response Force (NRF) is a high-readiness force comprising land, air, sea and special forces units capable of being deployed quickly.[1] As of February 2022, units assigned to the NRF have been used on five occasions.

Rotating forces through the NRF requires nations to meet the demanding standards needed for collective defence and expeditionary operations. As the standards are very high, participation in the NRF is preceded by a six-month NATO exercise program in order to integrate and standardize the various national contingents. Generally, nations carry out a pre-training period in preparation for the NATO exercises of between 6–18 months. Once activated, Reconnaissance Teams deploy within 5 days. This is the first of a number of deployment phases that lead to the deployment of the entire HQ Joint Task Force and Immediate Reaction Forces within 30 days.

The NRF includes units from several countries that do not belong to NATO: non-member partners, Finland, which first contributed forces in 2008[2]; Sweden, 2013[3]; Ukraine, 2014[4]; and Georgia, 2015.[5]

The most interesting part to me was the list of nation participants. Not all NATO. Not sure if its a current list.

If Russia attacks inside any NATO member states, I will no longer be against the U.S. military getting involved.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened the alliance by telling it to withdraw forces from member nations or face consequences.

Say what?!

Neocons, stop beating the war drums. The west pushed Putin into a corner by insisting on bringing Ukraine into nato. Only an idiot would assume he wouldn’t clap back at this. Imagine if the old Warsaw Pack had brought Mexico into their alliance. The US would have lost their sh#t! Then there’s the CIA instigated color revolution to overthrow a Ukraine leader sympathetic to Russia with one pro nato. And one that pays handsomely to “the big guy” is just a bonus! /sarcasm Of course current America loves this Ukraine..they are as corrupt as Washington!

This is insane. Ukraine isn’t in NATO.

If Biden wants to intervene, he needs to organise a coalition like Bush did with Iraq. Or go it alone. NATO forces aren’t his private army.

This is so ripe to escalate. Calm heads need to prevail. None of this is worthy of getting into WWIII.
