Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke appeared to back off his 2019 statement that "hell yes" he intends to take guns away from citizens if elected to office.
"I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone," O’Rourke told reporters in Tyler, Texas on Tuesday, according to KLTV. "What I want to make sure that we do is defend the Second Amendment."

HCI, around 1984, suddenly made a grab for the semi-auto rifles and shotguns, and missed But they showed their hand. As a result all gun owners know we are always up against a stacked deck.
He’s a lot like candidate for President Bill Clinton. I remember the Money Magazine comparison of the two candidates’ policies. Bill promised to enact middle class tax cuts, so the magazine said endorse Bill if you are middle class because you will benefit.
Then after the election was certified, Clinton said “The new information from my staff coming into my hands has convinced me I cannot support middle class tax cuts because the budget situation is so bad and we need to pay for new programs.”
That old Money Magazine issue sat in the staff lounge for months later and always reminded me of that.
So Beto begging for Texas votes: no gun grab, no worries.
After election day: You can bet your ass I’m coming for your guns, morons.
The key word is “taking”.
Beto doesn’t want to take your guns, he wants you to hand them in, or else.
