New York Mayor Eric Adams (D) on Sunday assured New Yorkers that the city's subway system is safe to use after a woman died when she was pushed in front of an incoming train.
“New Yorkers are safe on the subway system. I think it’s about 1.7 percent of the crimes in New York City that occur on the subway system," Adams said during a press briefing, according to The Telegraph.
“Think about that for a moment,” he said. “What we must do is remove the perception of fear."

“What we must do is remove the perception of fear.”
And replace it with Bernie Goetz.
The train and motorman were not injured.
stand on the platform with your back against the wall would be prudent

Now do CV19!
The subway itself is safe. It’s the creatures that inhabit the area you have to be afraid of.
So how many times Mr. Mayor have you stood in line to wait for the subway?
There are few walls in NYC subway stations except the local stops. But i agree with you- when i ride the subway i’m back off the line near a pillar and always keep my head on a swivel.
So how many times Mr. Mayor have you stood in line to wait for the subway?
“The streets are safe as well,” says the mayor who witnessed an assault in the streets the day he was inaugurated.
Like a bad Polish joke: How many people does it take to have pushed in front of subways trains before it becomes unsafe? /s
There is a good reason Bernie Goetz and Charles Bronson are still heros among NYC strap-hangers.
The Subway is never safe. Most New Yorkers know this.
The Mayor then qualified his comment by stating that, “The subway is safe... Except for white people and Asians. Especially, the Asians.”
“Liar”
What he said is technically correct. The subway...the cars, the building, etc. are “safe.” It’s the people in them you must fear.
When I rode the NY subway in the early eighties, I didn’t feel threatened. But I could see that if anything happened, say economically more challenging times, some racial strife, a riot, then riding the subway would be an insane thing for someone to do. Also, people would line up in front of the tracks and read their newspaper. I thought standing close to the tracks given the crazy homeless was a stupid thing to do. I waited far back against a wall so I could see the people around me. I’ve always had a high need for situational awareness. Possibly because I was knocked completely unconscious twice in high school by what is now called “the knockout game.” Then it was just assault and the school authorities couldn’t even be bothered about taking down the incident.
Stand back a few feet from the edge.
Is the killer back on the streets yet?
