NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A severely corroded pipeline ruptured and spilled more than 300,000 gallons (1.1 million liters) of diesel fuel just outside New Orleans, according to federal records.
The spill from the 16-inch (40-centimeter) diameter line operated by Collins Pipeline Co. was discovered Dec. 27 near a levee in St. Bernard Parish, just east of New Orleans, according to documents from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
In October 2020, an inspection of the 42-year-old Meraux Pipeline revealed external corrosion along a 22-foot (7-meter) section of pipe in the same area as the spill. But repairs were delayed and the line continued operating after a subsequent inspection indicated the corrosion was not bad enough to require work immediately under federal regulations, according to the pipeline agency.
A PBF Energy representative had said in an October 2021 email to federal pipeline regulators that the company was still awaiting federal and state approval to repair the corrosion found in the vicinity of where the spill occurred, according to federal records.
That work was anticipated to begin later this month once the company received permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, PBF Energy regulatory compliance director Thomas McLane said in the email.

They probably translated to metric units for foreign audiences. I think they should have translated to dollars. That makes it clear why the pipeline company should have been more diligent in their maintenance. At $3.00 per gallon they lost $900,000 in fuel, and will incur the costs to clean it up and fix the pipeline. And maybe fines for environmental damage.
The leak is going to end up costing over 1 million dollars.
That’s about 850 trips across the US in a Mac truck!
I recently saw a documentary about Mr. Diesel the other day and his struggles to perfect the engine and to get it accepted. Not bad.
“A severely corroded pipeline ruptured...”
BS..I wonder who the government operatives were? Maybe the same who instigated 1/6 follies.
INSANITY.........
Where’s Lootie when he’s really needed?
The usual sensationalist garbage headlines from the Nazis at AP.
Ask these pigs why they used gallons instead of barrels.
Headline: Pipeline spills 300,000 gallons of diesel near New Orleans.
Because 300,000 sounds like a BIG spill. Let’s change the gallons into quarts: Pipeline spills 1,441,139.91 quarts of diesel near New Orleans.
So, why not use quarts, AP?
Because people would recognize the absurdity.
Dry cleaning solvent evaporates a lot faster than diesel fuel. It’s also not flammable. Perchloroethylene is what is usually used as dry cleaning solvent. You can still buy it in an aerosol can in some places as chlorinated brake parts cleaner.
How is the swamp suppose to work when 100% of them were on covid paid leave and working to eliminate the Orange Menace.
