Voters move to block Trump ally Madison Cawthorn from re-election

A group of North Carolina voters told state officials on Monday that they want Republican congressman Madison Cawthorn to be disqualified as a congressional candidate, citing his involvement in the 6 January attack on the Capitol.

Cawthorn questioned the outcome of the presidential election during the “Save America Rally” before the Capitol riot later that day that resulted in five deaths.

At the rally, Cawthorn made baseless claims that the election had been stolen from Donald Trump, and has been accused of firing up the crowd, many of whom went on to storm the Capitol.

Lawyers filed the candidacy challenge on behalf of 11 voters with North Carolina’s board of elections, which oversees a process by which candidate qualifications are scrutinized.

The voters say Cawthorn, who formally filed as a candidate last month, cannot run because he fails to comply with an amendment in the constitution ratified shortly after the civil war.

The 1868 amendment says no one can serve in Congress “who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress … to support the constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same”.

I posted that the communists will now go and block constitutionalists from running for office using contrived charges.

I expect state Attorney Generals to get indictments against candidates on manufactured charges (like what NY is doing to Trump). This will create an unresolved indictment around the neck of a candidate with a trial taking place long after the election.

Let the people vote on it... besides every democrat candidate should be asked if they support the second amendment, if not, they are an insurrectionist.

A group of North Carolina voters told state officials...

Nah, those aren't "voters." Voters vote. These are what we call "activists." Further, it's ironic they accuse Cawthorn of "baseless claims" after pushing the debunked lie that the rally resulted in five deaths.
Reality is there was only one violent death: that of an unarmed Trump supporter whose murder was not prosecuted.

This is a preliminary case. If this seems like it is getting any traction, they will block Trump in 2024 with this method.

Tyrants won’t march down the street declaring their hegemony. It’ll creep in like mildew.

The 2nd Amendment is mostly a deterrent, but for it to work against an active tyranny, you would need guerilla warfare.

He is not a Trump ally.

He’s a Rino supreme. A young Romney.

The 1868 amendment says no one can serve in Congress “who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress … to support the constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same”.

It's why the communist media & pols continue to describe J6 as an "insurrection"

This is the tool the communists will use to block Trump in 2024.

Tempest in a teapot. More Mark Elias BS. Nothing, I mean nothing, will come of it. J6 was not an insurrection. No one has been charged with insurrection.

"He is not a Trump ally."

Cawthorn speaks the MAGA language. Only time will tell if he is a true believer or is a grifting self promoting Rino.

Whatever. Don’t vote for him. He has a right to run, and just because we don’t like him doesn’t mean we should concede that 1/6 was an “insurrection” and he was a part of it just for saying that the election was stolen at a rally. That’s too big a price to pay for any hostility to Cawthorn.

They’re supposed to uphold our laws including immigration laws, which their record has been abysmal for enforcing. Most of the democrats and some republicans should be kicked out of congress, including Biden if this holds.

This is a desperate bid which A) will not work and B) will backfire on Democrats as the voters see just how desperate they are and to what undemocratic lengths they will go to try to cling to power.
