Major U.S. car brand to go full electric, will no longer offer internal combustion vehicles

Automaker Chrysler just announced plans to go completely electric by 2028, anticipating the release of its first electric vehicle by 2025.

Chrysler announced the plans along with a new AI-enabled vehicle system powered by a battery that the company says can travel 350 to 400 miles per charge, as The Associated Press reported.

Chrysler is part of Europe’s Stellantis, which last month announced a new strategy to embed AI-enabled software into millions of vehicles across its 14 different brands. This could gain Stellantis $22.6 billion in annual revenue by 2030.

This is all part of the race among automakers to produce more completely electric and hybrid cars that also have more autonomous driving features. Overall, this would begin shifting cars away from gasoline-powered engines.

As one of the main American brands of Stellantis, Chrysler will be on the front lines of this change in the auto industry in North America.

I only bought one - in ‘64.

The ‘new’ wore off before the payments did.

I made payments once. It was from a Buy Here, Pay Here place and it broke down shortly before our son was born. I was lucky and had friends that were mechanics and was recommended a shop to have fix it. I fix my own stuff but was behind on the computerized vehicles. Got a great deal on the repair but meanwhile I had to buy a $200 car with no reverse and that’s what I brought my son home in.

Paying 4-5 times the actual value was already bothering me so this was enough of financing a vehicle. I learned the computerized vehicles instead.

“what happens when we run out of lithium”

Toyota is going with a solid state battery that does not use lithium and they claim it will have a 15 year life and is 100% recylable.

What happens when we run out of lithium?

More important, who is going to control the supply of lithium, or any other minerals necessary to produce the batteries?

Pelosi and several other limosine liberals in Congress are probably cornering the market on those stocks right now...

When you make a billion and spent 10 billion to make it... That’s not a ‘profit’.

Why not?

A) Nuclear isn't happening.

B) Lack of a grid that can handle it. Even Elon says the grid is nowhere near sufficient. Utilities barely keep up with maintenance, not even considering the push to get more of the grid underground.

I'd add that with prices of conductors where they are now, the cost of a major grid upgrade would be incredible.

I believe most anybody who drives in Kazakhstan is using LPG.

'Course tho', right now, Kazakhstan is getting more interesting than just that point, although fuel prices are part of what is fueling the fire...

No - really! Three years to build their first ever electric car, and in another three years they will be ALL electric!

I was watching Jay Leno talking about one of his cars - a 1957 Imperial (break-off of Chrysler). He said back then that Chrysler had some quality issues as they were always changing the styles, engines, etc. Just imagine the build quality of a complete make-over in the span of 3/6 years.

Actually, gasoline has “cleaned up” so much it is now used in camping stoves and lights.
