The 2024 presidential election may still be three years away, but Republicans have already begun to jockey for their places in the primary.
Former President Trump’s repeated hints that he could mount another bid for the White House remains perhaps the biggest obstacle for other would-be contenders.
While none have spoken definitively about their plans for 2024, many potential candidates have already started networking with GOP leaders and donors in key states while testing out campaign messages in public appearances.

Thank you. Desantis will not run if President Trump runs. The rest are toast if President Trump runs.
the only one is Donald J Trump.
pence backstabber, a lot of 2016 convention losers, and one unknown.
Mike Pence
Chris Christie
Nikki Haley
They’d have better luck running as Democrats.
After the first two on your list I’d say goodbye to the others
Take out Trump (and Desantis who will not run if Trump runs) and they’re a bunch of out-of-touch clowns.
Donald Trump - ok
Ron DeSantis - ok
Mike Pence - Let’s go Michael
Chris Christie - fcc
Nikki Haley - neocon
Ted Cruz - not eligible
Mike Pompeo - CIA spook
Kristi Noem - lame
Tom Cotton - unsure
Larry Hogan - who?
The 10 Republicans most likely to piss into the wind…
If Chris Christie drops out, the field would be reduced by half.
I agree with you 100%. If Trump runs it doesn’t matter who else is in, the nomination is his.
Honestly I don’t think DeSantis runs even if Trump bows out. I expect he’ll have taken a 2024 Presidential bid off the table between now and November as part of his reelection campaign for Governor of Florida.
What seems a best-case scenario to me at this point is for Trump to announce fairly early after November, most conservatives stay out, Trump strolls to the nomination, and then names DeSantis to the ticket in the summer of 2024. DeSantis can then say he is grateful and honored to serve Florida but the nation calls.
Make that 9.
By the standards established by the Democrats, Cruz is eligible.
The quickest way to get this unsettled question to SCOTUS is to have a Republican, such as Ted Cruz be a serious candidate for the Presidency or VP. That is when the Dems would change their tune.
No Rand Paul? Don’t sell Paul short. Paul and DeSantis have Covid records that are unimpeachable. The blame for the catastrophic federal response to Covid will be made a key issue.
Trump and Desantis.
Everyone else is playing for VP.
😂
DeSantis has already proven he cannot be trusted in DC. He gas been a decent governor but the lobbying pressure is quite different in Tallahassee than DC
The rest are toast whether Trump runs or not.
I wouldn’t vote for any of them.
DeSantis ....... Would love to see him as a VP and then have President Trump hand the reins to him. That’s me. I know many are growing weary of President Trump’s insistence on how great the shots are. As much as I support the guy, I think he’s being set up by the Democrats. And his ego is too big for him to see it and he doesn’t have anyone around him to tell him different. If that brings about his fall, that’s on him. And if that happens, then it’s DeSantis all day, every day.
The rest.....the author must be on crack or something.
Mike Pence ...... Hmmmmm, I don’t think votes from Kristol, Goldberg, Benson, Shapiro, Rove, the Bush’s, and their ilk will be enough to move the needle on this POS. But good luck making yourself look like the fool you are.
Chris Christie ...... What world is the author of this article living in? FatA$$ won’t make it a month, if that.
Nikki Haley ...... Is that a joke? Someone is clearly not as funny as they think they are. However, I would like to see her enter the race. To watch her fail just as miserable as Harris did in the Democrat primary. This is going to be a great opportunity for the RINO/GOPe/Chamber of Commerce/Country Club/Rove-Kristol Republicans to see just where they stand and how much folks don’t like them.
Ted Cruz ....... definitely NOT. He did his best to block President Trump. Don’t care that he argued stuff in front of SCOTUS. Don’t care if he appeared to have turned the corner and started siding with the President. When President Trump wanted to get leverage and concessions from AMLO and Mexico he threatened to shut down the border. Something, I believe would have had AMLO on his knees, Cruz decided to take to the airwaves and every other medium to criticize the President, saying how disastrous that move would be. A simple phone call or quick meeting would have let him know that the “shut down” was a bargaining tool. But, NOPE, Cruz wanted headlines and a chance to undermine the man who spanked him.
Mike Pompeo ...... Nope ..... Trying to ride the coattails and bump off the only person that was willing to give him a chance. At the end of they day, I’m pretty sure he’s Establishment, also. He just rode the wave created by President Trump.
Kristi Noem ......... Nope ...... Anyone that has two absolutely horrendous Senators representing the state and says nothing about it..... NOPE
Tom Cotton .......... Nope and nope ......... talks a good game but is Establishment all the way, every day. Easy to say what you want, when it doesn’t matter. First question for him: did you vote for Mitch McConnell to be the Republican Senate Leader?
Larry Hogan .............. Ha ha ha ha ha ha .....he’s better off running as a Democrat as that is what he really is.
