NFL legend John Madden died unexpected this morning. He was 85.
Or the actor who played General Burkhalter in Hogan’s Heroes, Leon Askin, who lived to 97.
Love it....thanks for posting that link.
RIP.
Was he Vaxed??
You’re forgetting that that’s the same euphemism used for drug overdoses, succumbing to AIDS and liver failure for athletes, celebs and other prominent leftists.
Too bad it was for a terrible beer. :P
Adios, John! Tell Pat, Al, the Snake, and the Assassin we said hi.
RIP Coach....
I don’t remember his coaching years, but it seemed like he didn’t age for 20 or 30 years. Celebrities who come on the scene already bald or gray-haired or white-haired or who play older characters from the beginning seem like they can go on forever.
“He spent several months touring the U.S., was tremendously successful, played with all the great orchestras, before returning to Europe in 1914. He shipped out on the S.S. Lusitania, got torpedoed and died within sight of Ireland.”
However, The Lusitania was sunk by U-20 in May of 1915.
Lot more comments here than on the Harry Reid announcement just below it.
Goes to show that a good man can outshine a powerful one any day.
I’ve been a Steelers fan since 1977. I only got to enjoy a few years of the Steelers-Raiders rivalry while Madden was with Oakland; but, those were my favorite years as a football fan. The current version is a poor facsimile.
RIP big guy.
Just saw the program “Madden” on ESPN this past weekend. Great show about him. Coach Madden was one of my favorites back in the 1960s. I loved the old AFL. Being a Bama fan, Bart Starr, Joe Willie and Snake Stabler were Bama QB’s who won the first three Super Bowls and Snake won what, the 5th or 6th Bowl? But I loved the mad men of the Raiders. The old Raiders, Jets, Steeler games were WARS!! Ben Davidson of the Raiders was just as mean as hell. What he did in games would get you kicked out in the first quarter today!! He was a Madden Mad Man on that defensive line. Those Raider teams were mean on D!! Snake was perfect for them with his lifestyle. Coach was a great “BOOM” talker on TV when he became a color man at CBS and then FOX. Will miss Coach BOOM, Lite Beer by Miller!!! Tastes great he yelled as he broke through that paper wall!! RIP Coach.
RIP
I grew up in the Pittsburgh area, and started following the Steelers as a kid just a few years before you. My dad usually took us to their training camp in Latrobe every summer. There were some great teams, players and coaches back in those days. Nothing like the pampered class we have today.
Thanks for the Madden quotes!
Our era’s Yogi Berra.
RIP John Madden.
Thanks.
Another good man - gone.
I appreciated his work as both coach and commentator.
RIP Mr. Madden.
