Supposedly this officer had been flying a desk for several years and had been put back into uniform due to a shortage of patrol staff. No refresher training.
Again - and I’ve said this previously - the officer is not wholly responsible for this incident. This was a department failure, this was a training failure, this was a leadership failure - but it was also an officer failure because there’s objective evidence on the video that she did not take it on herself to practice with her main weapon and probably did even less practice with the Taser.
This is metro Minneapolis. She was judged by a jury of her peers. Speaks for itself. The Gov will do nothing......

Still not discussing if she was a poorly trained cop, or poor at following safety protocols, or poor at practicing with police equipment, or poor at keeping in proper physical shape.
All those deficiencies can and should be addressed by Department Disciplinary Procedures, not by a criminal Court of Law.
Thing is, he wasn’t being dragged by the car until *after* she’d pulled her pistol. The car wasn’t going anywhere at the time.

Light sentence...I agree...Less than 5 years...
I am not surprised that the jury found her guilty...I think that Ms. Potter needs to serve some jail time...Not guilty verdict would have been wrong in this case...In my opinion...

I would say 18-36 months would be appropriate, IMHO.
There's no way in hell I would ever be a cop in America today.

I wonder how much Wright's family would get...Oscar Grant's family did not get a hugh settlement...In my opinion, $1.5 million is not a hugh amount...

One person doing something bad does not excuse another person for doing something bad. If Alec doesn't get a prison sentence, the problem is with that court system.

He has to first be charged, and then indicted before the court system even comes into play. And he will not be charged, and he won’t be indicted, so he has no worry about a prison sentence.
Even so, the fact that one miscreant gets away with something because of a rigged system does not excuse other people getting away with something.

The DA and defense counsel are “officers of the court,” but they play no part in passing sentence (and impact statements — if allowed — are only to affect the harshness or leniency of a sentence, but a sentence the convicted will get). But, the judge and jury are responsible for sentencing.
But I agree with you that just because one person skates should not mean other persons committing a similar crime should skate, but that’s a political act more than a legal one.
I hope she appeals.
According to what I’ve read she would have been JUSTIFIED using her gun too, because the criminal was attempting to drive away with an officer hanging out the side of the car.
That has been viewed as attempted homicide of a police officer in the past.
So how can they convict her of the ‘crime’ of using a gun instead of her taser, when the gun would have been justified too.
