HOUSTON — After warnings of an omicron surge over the holidays, Harris County has reported its first death caused by the omicron variant of COVID-19. It's also the first known omicron death reported nationwide.
County Judge Lina Hidalgo made the announcement during an afternoon news conference.
"My phone was ringing, I'm sure you guys noticed, and it was our public health director telling me we just had our first omicron-related death," she said.
According to Hidalgo, the patient was a man in his 50s who was not vaccinated and had an underlying health condition. He lived in Precinct 2.

Well I take a lot of stuff to hopefully not develop a severe case and have other stuff at the ready if I get sick. I’m going to die of something, but it’s not going to be from an adverse reaction to a crappy vaccine. Frankly I worry more about other diseases than I do covid. A couple months ago a friend of mine was diagnosed with Lou Garrett’s disease. I got another friend fighting cancer. I got a sister in law at the end of her battle with Lupus. I’m well aware of my mortality.
Not really BS... the key question is what did he die FROM, not what did he die WITH. Perhaps the hangnail in his left great toe killed him? They do not mention that at all!
I suspect that the underlying stage-4 xxxxx cancer is what killed him, but they don’t even tell us what it was.
Some of the PCR tests used by hospitals can infer omicron variant. The Thermo fisher test (article below) is looking at multiple genetic sites at least one of which is missing from omicron. So Delta will test positive for all sequence and I believe omicron is missing one sequence secondary to mutation.
thermo fisher article about omicron detection
So it's possible to discern this information depending on the hospital and the test equipment. Now whether Fox is getting the information from such a hospital or the hospital is inferring Omicron based on clinical presentation is anyone's guess
That called Bradycardia. You should have that checked.
Yeah, that's just the thing... Why the big sell.. Even to little kids who aren't at risk, and pregnant women.. And 75 years until anyone can be told what's in it.! What's with that..?
No thinks, I'll pass on that one.... But, I wonder what happened to the NEW ones (vaccines) that were to come out at the end of this year... (?)
There must be millions more dead we just haven’t found yet.
Agreed, hence my follow up at #4.
Merry Christmas !
There are several online test sites that will tell you your chances of dying from COVID.
I took one. I am closing in on 60 with a BMI of 39. I am pre-diabetic and have a history of pulmonary embolisms. Unvaccinated.
My odds of dying of COVID? 1 in 941
My odds of dying in a car accident in a year are more likely, but I still drive.
How does anyone know this? The article says nothing BUT “unvax”. How do you guys know this?
How many have died from the normal flu this season and last? A lot more than one.
thank you
‘They wish people would start dropping like flies.’
