Left-wing Hollywood star Bette Midler has insulted the people of West Virginia, describing them as “poor, illiterate and strung out” in a vicious Twitter rant aimed at Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). She later apologized for her outburst, saying she was angry over the senator’s decision to vote against President Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan.
Bette Midler lashed out at the senator in a rageful tweet on Monday. “He wants us all to be just like his state, West Virginia. Poor, illiterate and strung out,” she wrote. (The term “strung out” typically refers to drug addiction.)

If she lives in the LA area she doesn’t have to go to SF. Massive homeless encampments are even closer.

Coming from KY and having lived in WV I know a little bit about the poor, illiterate, stung out people she wants to talk about.
First of all of these people are the salt of the earth. Many of these people were taken advantage of by the robber barrons and had their land and minerals stolen from them having been paid a mere pittance for them.
These are hard working people who have contributed mightily to this nation in many ways. You need to thank the coal miners who provided the electricity that has powered this nation for years.
Where would we be without electricity? Lights, air conditioning, computers, cars, medicines and the list goes on. Search for yourselves and see what all is produced from coal or coal has been instrumental in producing.
Try lying on you belly in 18 inches of coal without protective equipment to mine the coal and breathing the dust created when it is blasted from the mountain. You are in complete darkness like nothing you have ever experience unless you have been there.
Illiterate, I beg to differ with you. Uneducated perhaps but not illiterate. It takes a different type of intelligence to survive what these people have survived. Many people could not have survived what these people have had to endure. They have also produced some of the smartest people in this country that you do not know about. They have not all received the notoriety of Bill Gates or Elon Musk but they have made major contributions in all areas of life.
Strung out, yes there are those that are. There are all those people in every state, city, county location all over this country. Our own government has encouraged this like they encourage the destruction of education the family and the church. These were the foundation upon which this country was built and we wonder why we have the problems we do.
I am tired of all the negativity, lets find the positive and build upon it.

My Grandfather told this story many times to many people.
