Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) hit back at White House staff Monday and warned that Democrats had miscalculated by thinking that they could pressure him into backing President Biden's spending plan.
"They figured surely to God we can move one person. We surely can badger and beat one person up. Surely we can get enough protesters to make that person uncomfortable enough that they'll just say, 'OK I'll vote for anything,'" he said in a local radio interview.
"Well, guess what? I'm from West Virginia. I'm not from where they're from and they can just beat the living crap out of people and think they'll be submissive, period," Manchin added.
Manchin's comments, made during a radio interview with West Virginia MetroNews's Hoppy Kercheval, come after he sent a jolt through Washington, D.C., on Sunday by announcing that he would not vote for the sweeping roughly $2 trillion climate and spending bill that was passed by the House earlier this year.

Thank you Joe Manchin for not allowing the Dems to spend trillions of dollars we don’t have.
The world needs more people like him. Period.
The fact that he hasn’t is confirmation to anyone with critical thinking skills that what he has demanded in return is too much for Biden et al to deliver.
Everything happens for a reason.
THIS!
“they’ll let all the blame for its failure fall on the guy who ...”
Do you think Manchin has deals where he’ll be rewarded for his uncomfortable position?
NO WAY Joe changes this bill is the absolute DEMISE of his state, he won’t budge look for him to switch parties!! This is to important for West Virginia Joe won’t budge!!!
Exactly! Never ever trust a slimy RAT! This is just Kabuki theater and saving some of his rat friends at the hill butts! But if he was really serious he would instantly leave the rat sinking ship and join the GOP! I see none of that in the near future.
Anyone who takes this much BS from within his own party must have to be a masochist.
If he and Sinema would simply quit the jackass party and go independent, they’d become thee most powerful two in the political class in DC.
They’ have noses stuck so far up their asses they wouldnt be able to move.
Ironically, if they voted on it now he could vote yes and it would still lose. Warren and Spartacus would not be present due to covid.
Some 25 years ago, a few rinos put Cloward/Piven’s Motor Voter bill over the top.
I suspect the Schmukster is on good terms w/Romney, Murkowski and others.
He’s not in an uncomfortable position. He’s a professional politician, so he knows how the D.C. game is played.
He needs to go on the offense and start telling WHY he’s not voting for it.
Point out in exquisite detail all the pork and idiotic spending.
They won’t want that.

They won't while they're in charge. Another reason why if the GOP takes the Senate in 2022 then Manchin will flip to the Republicans. Being in the majority has its benefits.
I figured that’s what would happen. They pissed him off and those mountain folk are stubborn, I should know, that’s where my people are from.
“Let’s Go Bran...er.....Manchin”

Definite possiblity. But there are so many Bozos on the Dem side of the senate that I’d be hard-pressed to name anybody other than Kirsten Sinema who might be pulling for the defeat of this bill (covertly).

Guess who?
“Let me tell you: You take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you,” Schumer told Rachel Maddow on Jan. 3, 2017. “For a practical, supposedly hard-nosed businessman, he’s being really dumb to do this.”
There will be a reckoning.
