The Senate during a rare middle-of-the-night session confirmed Rahm Emanuel to be President Biden's ambassador to Japan.
Senators voted 48-21 early Saturday morning on Emanuel's nomination. Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore) voted against his nomination.
“Rahm Emanuel has a lifetime of public service preparing him for this role. Japan is an important strategic partner in Asia, particularly in light of our continued challenges from China. I have no doubt Rahm will be a strong voice for America in Japan," Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said after the vote.

Abe: HELL NO
Maybe he will piss off the Yakuza.
SMDH! Butt..................
Rahm flees crime ridden Chicago for one of the safest big cities on the planet...
“Send in Ballerina Boy. I need a good laugh.”
IMHO this is a strange deal.
Why send one of Baraq’s top players to the other side of the world?
That means one Republican voted for it.
Actually it was a bunch of them….
Yes he’s Biden in black clueless.
They must want him out of the country for some reason.
Rahm wants out of the country before the Brandon hits the fan?
“Rahm Emanuel has a lifetime of public service preparing him for this role.”
There is no condemnation on Earth greater than “having a lifetime of public service” in America. It means that one is terminally and universally corrupt, a sociopath (at the minimum, more likely a full-on psychopath), and evil to the core.
“Rahm Emanuel has a lifetime of public service preparing him for this role.”
Oh great, now Tokyo can become Chicago.
**”Rahm Emanuel has a lifetime of public service preparing him for this role.**
‘public service’, yeah right.
If people like Rammy want to do a public service, they can start by publicly confessing of the underhanded self serving things they have done while being public ‘servants’.
It might take a few weeks to confess of all of them.
They must need to run some more hot guns and thought Japan would be the place to do,it. Watch for flast and flurious in the near future
With Rahm and Hillary, Jennifer Granholm , Chris Christie and Buttigieg, and of course Garland, I remember the phrase ‘A bad penny always turns up.’
To remove him from the field of play as a compromise measure to one of the factions.
The "Cabal" that put both Obama and Biden in office is not a monolith. Their internal divisions are all behind closed doors and we cannot see the details, but there are conflicts between the factions and deals get made to resolve them.
Mysterious transfers of public figures to isolated positions and locations is a result of those deliberations. Rahm is an operative for one of the factions which has lost a dispute and he is being exiled temporarily to keep him out of action.
This is a "timeout". He will most likely be back in action in a couple of years.
At least he can’t give them the middle finger.
