WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration is set to release a federal strategy Monday to implement an ambitious plan to build 500,000 charging stations for electric vehicles across the country and ultimately transform the U.S. auto industry.
The $1 trillion infrastructure law President Joe Biden signed last month authorizes the charging stations and sets aside $5 billion for states, with a goal to build a national charging network. The law also provides an additional $2.5 billion for local grants to support charging stations in rural areas and in disadvantaged communities.
“President Biden, American families, automakers, and autoworkers agree: the future of transportation is electric,″ the White House said in a statement. “The electric car future is cleaner, more equitable, more affordable and an economic opportunity to support good-paying, union jobs.″
The new EV charging strategy establishes a joint electric vehicles office between the federal Energy and Transportation departments; issues guidance and standards for states; and ensures consultations with manufacturers, state and local governments, environmental justice and civil rights groups, tribes and others.

The except was abusively talking about Juicy Smolyeah...and the article was from the AP...and I thought “Has the world gone crazy?”. Is the AP switching sides?
After following the link and realizing the article is about EVs, I only have one question...”Can I charge my cellphone at these charging stations?”

Where do they think they’re gonna get all that juice? Outta their ass?
A fast charger can use 4 times the energy of a suburban home.
When transformers start popping like kettle corn, look for utilities to mandate a separate meter that is only available during off peak hours.
California will be the canary in this coal mine.
Do you have to show your vax card to get your car filled up at one of Slow Joe’s unicorn fart stations?
My idea is that as soon as the EV charging stations are full implemented, cars with hydrogen fuel cells will be viable.
Are they planing on adding the stations to nation’s power grid? The one that’s been in danger of collapsing for the last decade?
I don't think they did. Private enterprise did a decent job responding to the increased demand and ensured that gas stations popped up wherever they were needed.
Everything you need to know about this "strategy" is in the first sentence.
We know this because everything the Biden mis-Administration touches turns to complete sh*t.
Anyone know how much they cost individually?
Out dinky town got a 300k grant for a charging station I’ve never seen anyone use.
++Therre is no market for the charging stations which reflects acalculation that here is a very tiny market for EVs. so the harging stations will be very expensive white elephants and will be pretty nearly useless because the power grid will by then be depending on wind and sun and good intentions. The “pumps” will be festooned with “Temporarily out of volts” signs much of the time. I bet nuclear powe will suddenly become Green at some point. That is the only thing that would make EVs rational for more than a tiiny segment of the population.
Congressional legislation is required to implement the scheme.
There will not be 60 votes in the Senate in the near future
This article is a Eurosocialist wet dream
1 trillion for 500,000 - $2 million for ONE!!!
The electric vehicle scam is one of the biggest cons ever to be run on Earth.
After they convince Americans to give up their gasoline and diesel vehicles for electric ones, the political liars will announce EV’s are turning out NOT TO BE PRACTICAL because the grid cannot support the charging needed. They will be banned and then AMERICANS WILL HAVE NO PERSONAL VEHICLES.
No cars equals no freedom.
They want us out of personal vehicles and at their mercy for our every movement.
Was driving through rural central VA yesterday. Stopped at Sheetz almost in middle of nowhere on major state road. It had 8 or 10 charging stations. One car, millennial couple hooked up. Next time I’ll walk over to see if the charge is free or if one has to pay. They aren’t paying road/gas taxes.
Let’s be honest, EV and all other green technology is heavily subsidized else it would still be at hobby-in-the-basement level, and the biggest irony of it all - it is wholly dependent on fossil fuel for its current existence and marketing.
Yes. They want us off the land. Out of the rural area. Out of the suburbs too. If they can push us all into enormous urban complexes, with public transportation, then they can have full control. If we go to a full plant-based diet, and if they can make a few more advances in hydroponics, then they may be able to grow the food supply within city limits.
The charging stations should be only on the “green” energy. The rest of the country needs all the conventional powerplants can deliver & maybe more. Doesn’t make sense to commit such a large amount of our nation’s power to such a small portion of the transportation industry. I hate the idea of using much-needed affordable electric power that lights & heats our homes to a small group of electric vehicle owners who can afford such luxuries. Let them be powered by only the solar & wind generators, which should not be interconnected into the country’s electric grid.
Odd, I searched the article for “generation” and “plants” and found nothing. I guess these magical charging stations will produce their own electricity?
You are going in the right direction, but I see it going in a different direction. The issue of electrical capacity will come to the forefront long before people are locked into their EV. There will be a special annual environmental tax on gasoline and diesel motor vehicles to “pay for the pollution” that EVs will have an exemption.
Going on at the same time, implementation of EV-driver-less cars is going to be pushed hard. It will come out first for helping the “elderly” get around. Eventually it will be the only car one can “buy”, except eventually, no one will be able to own cars. Driver-less will become part of the public transit system - managed by central computer system. Taxes will be used to maintain the vehicles.
One more question: Are there ANY plans to build power generation plants to recharge these cars?
