The Patriarch of Russia speaks about the dangers of modern "gadgets" and the results of them.
Its late here, I am going to bed. got work to do in the morrow so enjoy your discussions.
You have to be careful. Russia has adopted Traditionalism as part of its nationalist philosophy.
Traditionalism is the belief in a society before Western civilization and Christianity took over. So, the Russians are developing a meld between Christianity and Traditionalism.
before Western civilization and Christianity
Do you mean before Plato and Paul, or do you mean before Luther and Leibnitz?
Russia found out the hard way that their Empire of Reason , free of the taint of religion, was not the Utopia they thought it would be . There is a reason Civilization and Religion have consistently been essential partners from the very beginning.
The Tower of Babel stuff. So, definitely before the Greeks and maybe even before the Sumerians.
Secret society stuff, like the cult of Enoch.

They hide among the conservatives and use much the same language as conservatives, but they don’t have the same worldview of conservatism.
Unfortunately the God they worship is sometimes not God, but Vladimir Putin, who worships only himself...
Quite interesting! A rather unique blend of the Theme from Rawhide and a solid Russian Folk Song!
Ah, the “gadgets” he is speaking of are cellphones. While he talks about the danger of being tracked and spied on as a global thing, and I’m sure he is quite serious about that, the subtext is the danger on a national level as well, which I’m sure his audience appreciates, given the history.
I thought it was going to be about microwave ovens or something (back during the latter Yeltsin years, there were rumors going around about them giving you cancer and making you sterile, similar to rumors here back in the 1970s).
Teens in Russia became obsessed with computers and video games in the early 2000’s, with kids jumping off bridges over them and whatnot. Yes, our teens were and still are into all that, but it was a new thing for the Russians, and, coming after the terrible poverty of the 1990s, much more extreme there.
It’ been a couple of decades since I spent time in Russia, but can imagine Russians being every bit as glued to their cellphones as we are.
Hahaha! You got that right! He lives in Washington State. Gorgeous scenery in his “I Wonder as I Wander” here:

Wow, the St. Petersburg Choral School sure turns out some marvelous young tenors. This one may not appeal to most Americans, but judging from the comments, some are enraptured:

To the question of the sincerity of the rulers of Russia and their commitment to Orthodox Christianity, it must be remembered that deception has been a hallmark of Communist practices. The militant atheism of the Soviet Union was discredited despite 70 years of anti-religious propaganda. Putin and the Russian leadership knew that continuing the atheism of the recent past would be doomed to failure domestically. For the price of a Sign of the Cross, restoring the past honor to old Tsarist leaders, raising the pre-1918 national flag, and veneration of an icon, the ex-KGB and Communist leadership would appear to have rejected the past of Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev, and Brezhnev and to have returned to the ancient traditions of Russia.
What is the reality? In foreign affairs, Russia continues the policy of supporting Marxist and radical Muslim regimes, such as Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran. They are aligned with Communist China, and have engaged in war games with them for over a decade. China, Russia. and Iran have a common goal, the weakening and ultimate defeat of the United States and its Western and East Asian allies
Much the case, and the exaltation of their religion, which in the case of Russia, is that of the ROC, all others (are sppsd to) need permission to even share their faith in the phone.

I differentiate between the Russian people and the guvernment, as I’m certain most of us do.
Well thank you for actually watching it. I believe you might be the only one.
There are other sermons he gave..about same sex marriage, homosex, the destruction of the family, what happened to the orthodox church during the 20th century, globalism, etc.
Watched a bit of the ceremonies they perform...all Greek to me. But boy does the man hit the bases square on the nose in some of his sermons.
Thank you for actually watching it.
BTW, I am surprised that they have not banned him from youtube yet.
