"There are some who say you're never supposed to point a gun on anyone on a set no matter what," Stephanopoulos said.
"Unless the person is the cinematographer who's directing me at where to point the gun for her camera angle," Baldwin said. "That's exactly what happened."
Criticism of Baldwin has come from fellow actors, some of whom shared their own protocol using weapons while filming. George Clooney said recently that, "Every single time I'm handed a gun on a set -- every time they had me a gun -- I look at it, I open it, I show it to the person I'm pointing it to. We show it to the crew."
Baldwin took issue with Clooney's thinly veiled jab, calling it "misplaced."
"There were a lot of people who felt it necessary to contribute some comment to the situation, which really didn't help the situation at all," he said. "If your protocol is you checking the gun every time, well, good for you. Good for you."

There is a line from the King Crimson song “Thela Hun Ginjeet” which perfectly describes a set with Alec Baldwin.
“He held a gun in his hand. This is a dangerous place!”
He actually bashed Trump in that interview, claimed Trump said he killed the woman on purpose which I don’t recall Trump ever saying.
This is great time for the 2A community to push for gun education, rather than liberal gun ignorance. The public needs to know that responsible gun ownership is safe gun ownership.
Perry has already covered this one.
“An actor rigs a fake on-air shooting with the connivance of his friend, the show’s host, but the practical joke goes horribly wrong when the gun, which he’d loaded with blanks, turns out to contain a live round.”

Why would you ever decock the hammer with the barrel pointed at someone?
Being a liberal means nothing is ever your fault.
AND never having to say you’re sorry.
I should have finished reading comments before adding mine.
But i will say Great minds think alike!
The irony is that the "Rust" is about a man who accidently kills someone.
AND Baldwin himself co wrote the script....and probably picked out the weapons.
His father taught riflery...I'm betting daddy taught him how guns worked very early on...AND I'm betting daddy had a large gun collection.
He’s way too smart to listen to a lawyer. He’s going to ACT his way out of this.
+1
The media will do all they can to portray Baldwin as a victim, as a professional courtesy for his efforts against Trump. In contrast to their public lynching of Rittenhouse.
Yes, that is my signature is on the bottom of that memo, but my secretary typed it up and she made a mistake. It’s her fault!
Will he gasp for breath? Every actor knows that trick.
Will he say her husband was soooo nice to him?? Unbelievable that he would comment on someone else's feelings. I think the husband doesn't really buy into Baldwin's "It wasn't me" story.
Dude, it was your fault. Period. Show some b@lls, step up and say you screwed up. The only thing that is not your fault Baldwin was loading the gun. BUT...you should have checked the status of the firearm if someone handed it to you and there was any question about it being loaded.
Never hand a firearm to anyone loaded. Never accept one and even if it seems unloaded...check it. Simple rules.
Good to see they finally came up with a credible explanation because I just was not buying that theory about shape-shifting aliens.
That’s Comey signing off on the FISA papers...that’s what I do...sign off. I don’t verify anything. Not my job.
Liar
Your fault.
The thing is, SA revolvers don’t have a decocking mechanism. He would have had to pull the hammer back with is finger on the trigger to lower it.
He has stated he never pulled the trigger.
Hmmm.
