We fully expected the Times to make excuses for Biden. And at first, it looks as though that is what Irwin is going to do, writing that “presidents have less control over the economy than headlines might suggest.” But then he adds that “the current situation is an exception to the rule.”
And even more remarkable is what comes next. Irwin writes:
"You can draw a direct line from a specific policy decision that Biden and congressional Democrats made this past winter to some of the inflation happening now.
"In designing the stimulus that Congress passed in March, Biden’s administration went big, with $1.9 trillion in pandemic relief — on top of a separate $900 billion package that passed three months earlier. Put the two together, and $2.8 trillion in federal money has been coursing through the economy this year while economic activity has trended only a few hundred billion dollars a year short of what mainstream analysts would consider full health."
The fact that the Times, along with others in the mainstream media, admits that inflation is a problem is in itself a noteworthy development, since for months it insisted that it was just a data anomaly – one that Republicans were trying to exploit for political gain.
Now, with prices for many common household goods having gone up by double digits over the past few months and no end in sight for the trend, the inflation story is impossible to ignore.
But the fact that any one of these “news” outlets is willing to blame Biden for the inflation spiral is a truly stunning development, given they’d spent months blasting out “fact checks” that aggressively slapped down any such claim.

A blast from the past. ;)
Now, if the New York Times could just get lost in it's entirety...
NOT the babylonbee?
The latest spin I heard is that Biden’s problems are the Republican’s fault for losing the Georgia senate runoffs. Had the GOP maintained senate majority like they were supposed to, Biden would’ve been restrained by gridlock.
Biden lost nothing, except his mind. The NYT is hardcore left, communist propaganda.
When things start falling apart to such a degree that the media can’t tell the stupid public: “Pay no attention to your empty wallet, the economy is booming, you’re doing better than ever!”
So, to save some shred of credibility, the propaganda agencies allow some observations that are close to the mark. Make no mistake, at the first opportunity, the propaganda outlets will be singing the praises of the communists and warning of the dire threat of Republicans.
Maybe the New York Times is feeling guilty for destroying the respect citizens use to have for journalists...
I guess that’s right. Now we can see Democrats unrestrained!
Precisely.
I remember reading 1984 back in high school and thinking, “Why is he making us read this depressing stuff? Things could never really get this bad.” But here we are. Ministry of Truth.
So, thank you Mr. Gibson, my 12th grade English teacher.
The NYT is hard left, and will push hard left as long as they can get away with it. But it’s also pretty smart, and knows when to tack back a bit to maintain at least a facade of objectivity.
The Democrats will never lose the New York Times. Do not be fooled. I can’t believe someone even wrote that.
But wait, I thought the dysfunctional economy was caused by unvaccinated children…..
Democrats don’t need propaganda anymore, they’re in power. Their feeling is let the American people choke on their policies. It doesn’t matter, fraud will get them elected. This chaos will eventually bring in the new world order.
I think that in 2020 the Democrats had a dilemma. There are younger rocks than the top Democrats. By and large, the Democrats haven’t invested in younger talent and have, instead, clung to the reigns of power well past their best-by dates. On top of that, the group of potential candidates who applied for the top office billing were spectacularly unqualified, unlikable and unelectable. At which point the top party officials should have held a meeting and decided on a few things. What is the party’s goals, aside from holding power and feathering their onw nests? What was the path forward for the party...not the individuals like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer? Putting aside the ability to govern something more complicated than a small city with only sixty busses, which was royally cocked-up in any case, they decided to pick a man who likely wouldn’t even be alive in four years. This was a cynical attempt to keep things exactly the way they are now. Rather than planning for the future. Another problem was the big tent approach which put man eating tigers in the same tent as sexually confused sheep. Blacks and gays hate each other. Lesbians hate EVERYBODY.
With fantastic cheating and the help of Communist China, the Democrats won. But the fantasy that they’d be able to make a man whose brain is nearly dead, look presidential and rule from behind him is long over. Assuming the judges who all, wrongly in most cases, ruled against Trump, have learned from their mistakes, the next election will “mostly” be fair and the Democrats will “mostly” be eliminated...probably for a decade or more, from the public consciousness.
