The second-ranking general in the US military has sounded the alarm about China’s weapons development — warning that Beijing may soon have the capability to launch a surprise nuclear strike against America.
“They look like a first-use weapon,” Gen. John Hyten, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told CBS News Tuesday. “That’s what those weapons look like to me.”
Hyten was discussing China’s test of a hypersonic weapon from this summer, which was first reported by the Financial Times last month.
“They launched a long-range missile,” Hyten said. “It went around the world, dropped off a hypersonic glide vehicle that glided all the way back to China, that impacted a target in China.”

No need to attack us really. They can get whatever they want from this administration with little effort on their part.
They also control the flow of many vital medications to the country.
No, they have all the leverage they need without resorting to a first strike. That said, they might threaten us with one when the decide to invade Taiwan. But again, this administration will let them have it with only token resistance.

The Chinese anti-carrier DF-21D missile is likely armed with a nuclear warhead so even if the miss is around half a mile, the blast effect from a circa 250 KT nuclear warhead is powerful enough to effectively disable the carrier.
Haven’t Chinese generals been saying the same thing since last January?
The Chinese know we have a weak Pres. And they know our military is more concerned with wokeness, transgenders and placing females into combat positions, qualified or not. The might think now is the time to strike.
I've got a very small, antique desk in the family room with a two foot by two foot space underneath. Years ago, the first time my dog (an oversized Sheltie) heard the smoke alarm go off, he made a beeline for that little space, which was barely big enough for him to squeeze into. He stood there with a look on his face that clearly said, "now it can't get me!"

China doesn’t need to nuke us. They own the supply chain for damned near everything, have infiltrated every western institution, and the West is distracted by global warming and pronouns. All China has to do is have patience. We’re nuking ourself.
That would be a dam shame.
At this point, it might be the one thing that thiis nation needs.
I just recently rewatched the movie “Fail Safe”, watch that and tell how China can win a nuclear war. There is no such thing and watch “On The Beach”, that should convince you there are no winners at all.

I agree with most sentiments here.
We are there biggest customer. They need us. All other negatives aside (destroying the world with radioactive winter, etc) they gain nothing by first move/full arsenal attack other than being the big dog in the world. They also have to worry abour reprisals from any systems they didn’t take out, including subs, and by allies and treaty agreements.
There are only two reasons for them to do it, and even those seem like long shots. One is that they legit think we will attempt a first strike. The second is if they think their regime will fall and they’re basically just going to knock all the chess pieces off the board before check-mate.

If your far enough from ground zero it is not that bad of an idea. For then first few minutes.
If they take out Washington DC and New York City in the first strike, I’m good with that.

The loss of the 3 Gorges dam and everything downstream of it would not be a big deal to us.
