America's COVID-19 response bodes ill for effective climate action
The Hill ^ | 11/01/2021 | Jim Jones

A strange and dangerous phenomenon has taken hold among a significant segment of the U.S. population in recent years — a profound distrust of scientists and scientific consensus. It is puzzling that a nation responsible for so many remarkable achievements in medicine, technology, you name it, in the past century includes so many people who refuse to give credence to provable scientific facts. Instead, they put full faith and credit in easy-to-disprove “alternate facts” and conspiracy theories they find on amazing scientific devices that could not have been conceived of decades ago.

The COVID-19 pandemic is the poster child for this rejection of scientific consensus. Epidemiologists told us early on that masking would prevent the spread of the virus until an effective vaccine was developed. When the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were approved for use late last year, we were told that universal vaccination would bring the pandemic to a halt.

A profound distrust of Scientism funded, coerced, demanded, forced by the government. Scientism pretends it is science, but in fact is anit-science and pushing a communist / totalitarian government solution to each and every political issue under the guise of “science”.

I love it when people say sex can be changed by opinion and then go on to say they are scientific. No IQ test needed to determine their intelligence.

When the people are routinely lied to, in the name of "science", the distrust will grow.

Skepticism is a healthy start to science.

That’s funny. He forgot to throw “racism’ into this deranged piece.

“refuse to give credence to provable scientific facts”

The peasants expect to see proof of what is alleged to be provable.

The vaccine trials were too small to reliable determine side effect risk. The follow up was not released in a timely manner, allowing pandemic management to become less effective.

“A strange and dangerous phenomenon has taken hold among a significant segment of the U.S. population in recent years — a profound...” refusal on the part of so-called “Journalists” to permit the least modicum of credible doubt that their chosen idols are thoroughly truthful.

They appoint the gods du jour, invest them with unquestioned, and unquestionable, authority as vessels of truth, and anyone who will not bow down is, then, obviously a mendacious infidel who must be instantly excommunicated; publicly if at all possible.

I have a sort of mental shelf where I keep ideas that aren’t either fully formed or thoroughly debunked. Among the items on that shelf is the idea that this lying, craven corpus of complicit creeps we call “the mainstream media” just might be “The False Prophet” of Revelation. Whether or not that prices to be the case, they either are, or they will be his unquestioning global mouthpiece.

“There is a growing public awareness that climate change is a serious threat to the planet.”

Yet every poll I see rates “climate change” at the bottom of a list of 25 things of most concern.

Professor Richard Feynman, when asked to provide a definition of science, is said to have stated “Science is the assumption that the ‘experts’ are wrong”.

a profound distrust of scientists and scientific consensus

Right. Cancel culture abounds, where a doctor who disagrees with "the message" AND HAS PROOF is not only ignored, but loses his/her job.

The Scientific Method consists of (1) formulating a theory, (2) performing thorough tests of the theory, and (3) independent verification by others. Both climate change and COVID-19 suffers from the lack of (2) and (3). In both of these cases, we have "scientists" who cook the data to achieve conclusions that match an agenda. Everyone remember the "hockey stick"? How about the FDA committee (conflict of interest in every single member) recommending inoculation for young kids in spite of significant adverse reports?

Quite appropriate, since when science becomes polluted by politics, it become nothing more than dogma.

It's not science that we distrust, it's the pseudo-science that masquerades as science.

Ya don’t see Israel being held up as “The Model of COVID Vaccination Success” anymore.

There is nothing "scientific" about "consensus."

"Consensus" is politics.

Fraudulent "consensus" is criminal conspiracy.
