America be lying.

Although language purists will argue that the previous sentence is grammatically incorrect, it shows why African American Vernacular English (AAVE), is sometimes more accurate than Caucasian American Vernacular English (CAVE).

Does anyone know how to log onto this crappy, anti white website? I’ve logged in with both Google and Facebook, and when I hit the publish tab, it takes me right back to the log in page. I want to post your “ you be an idiot” phrase.

Yeah well.... it took over 40 years for me to find the truth via a book found at a second-hand store.
.....................................................
Wait! You say you found “the truth” in a second-hand book you bought? And no doubt you are sure it was the truth because the author said it was the truth? Man, I hope you don’t suffer from that gullibility sickness much longer!

Yes, slavery was common, But Didn’t Moses call for his people to be set free? A few of his people wondered why they left the safety provided by Pharaoh even then. Just because it was a common practice didn’t make it moral.

4 words into the title and the author already confirms he’s racist.

Northerners owned slaves. Black people owned slaves. Not all slaves were owned by Southerners and most Southerners didn’t own slaves.

At the time, bad as it was, slavery was legal. At the time they were not considered human by the people that owned them. They were considered livestock, more or less. None of that was right but it was the times.

My great-grandfather was born in 1865 and grew up in the years after the war. He died in 1963 when I was in the 3rd grade. We talked about the war.

He said that the slave owners in the South were wealthy Southern Democrats. They were the rich plantation owners, rich politicians, and wealthy business owners. Sound familiar?

There were a lot of Republicans in the South that didn’t own slaves and didn’t believe in it but it was the wealthy wanting to hold on to the lifestyle and the money.

My ancestors were Southern Republicans. They were all poor farmers. Some were sharecroppers.

Some of my ancestors fought for the Confederacy. None fought for slavery. According to him, the ones that fought for the Confederacy were just trying to stay alive. They didn’t want to fight but fight they did when the Yankees burned their farms, destroyed their crops, and killed their livestock to feed their army. To a Yankee all Southerners were slave owning trash. They never stopped to consider that not all of them supported slavery.

There were a lot of reasons for the war. That’s why we are still fighting it today. It wasn’t one side bad; one side good. There were Southerners that fought for the Union. Mine that fought for the Confederacy did it because it was Union soldiers that attacked them for NO reason.

Today illegals are the new slave for the Democrats. Democrats will always look down on and make “slaves” of people that are weaker than they are by making them dependent the same way the slaves of the 1800’s were made dependent on their “masters”.

If my G-Grandfather was alive today he would say history is fixing to repeat itself.

the Confederate states said so quite plainly / explicitly in their statutes that they passed to secede from the United States as the sole reason for doing so. Their politicians said so in their speeches. I take them all at their word.

I agree that when a group declares their intentions we should take their word for it.

For more than a century, school districts preferred textbooks that taught students about “happy slaves” and framed the Civil War as a disagreement over taxes. Republicans still refuse to admit voter suppression exists or that there was an insurrection on Jan. 6. Entire sections of the country will burn, flood and be blown away because most Republicans still won’t admit that climate change is real.

In one sentence the author checked off just about every left / woke hot-button issue.

Yes, he be an idiot.

Lincoln did no such thing. He waited until the war WAS going well so that he had the clout to end slavery.
Further, no one ever read about happy slaves or that other bs.
We were taught slavery was a great evil and Lincoln the Great Emancipator.
The secession happened exactly because Lincoln was elected and he was going to end extending slavery to territories (future states) which meant slavery was doomed and the South knew it.
Everything else is revisionist nonsense. I had one of these idiot professors in college. He also taught that FDR was a fiscal conservative because he wasn’t left wing enough. And Lincoln didn’t free any slaves.
And even if that were remotely true, did anybody notice in fact every slave was freed.
Must have been magic.

I am old enough to remember when Eubonics became accepted.

I thought it was a vast improvement over standard English.

It made conjugating verbs so much easier.

I be!
You be!
We be!
They be!
It be!

Right On Brother!

Street savage talk no BE English. It be street savage talk. It not be grammatical English.

Promoting slang talk is not helping its speakers! But that’s part of the reason why it’s being promoted. Street talk sets its speakers apart, in a group, apart from the mainstream. That’s so they can hate the other people more easily and blame them for their failures.

I feel great. I never owned or caught a negro to sell. I spent my career in a field where they were rather rare so never had much to do with them or their “culture’.

First of all, slavery was allowed, period, including in “loyal” states.

Race Baiters don’t want to hear anyone mention that before the CW there were slaves, and lots of them, all over the States north of the Mason-Dixon line!

Things must be different from school to school. I graduated in 1964 from HS and we were taught (in a prep school) the Civil War was brought about basically due to the Cotton Trade and tariffs. Slavery was an issue down the list. That war like most wars are fought over economic reasons. You have something I want and won’t give it to me so I will go to war with you to get it.

Of course the Masters, in order to gin up support and young men to go die for their economic war, spin it as being about religious or social concerns.

That is what I was taught.

Only proves that where one lives and goes to school affects what they are taught.

Americans should feel bad about not actively offering the descendents of slaves repatriation to their ancestral homelands, nor returning Mexicans to their home country. That is a continued shortcoming that should be rectified.

Actually genuine grammatical fanatics would argue the opposite.

Many thanks for your informative post. I believe there “be” very few people today who are cognizant of that grammatical subtlety. If I was ever aware of it, it was forgotten long ago!
