Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer and injured a director during a tragic accident when a prop gun discharged on the New Mexico movie set of the film “Rust,” authorities said.
The filming location at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Sante Fe was sent into lockdown and production was halted following the accidental double shooting at around 2 p.m.
“There was an accident today on the New Mexico set of ‘Rust’ involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks,” a production spokesperson told Deadline.
The Western drama’s director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, 42, and its director, Joel Souza, 48, were struck in the incident, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

Is a “faulty prop” like a “wardrobe malfunction”?
Isn’t he a member of F.A.G.?
“Doubt a blank was what Baldwin fired.”
Same here. A wad will not injure two people. There is more to this.
Its not Lamas .
He is still alive .We sat next to him in a Vegas cafe just before the China bioweapon was unleashed .
That’s odd. I thought all movie prop guns now used a butane igniter to simulate the flash and bang of a fired gun. That’s why you never see empty shell cases fly out of a semi or full auto in the “gunfights”.
That was my thought too.
Or,
Baldwin will get community service and gladly do some PSA’s about outlawing guns.
Come on, Hollywood…
Why on earth would you still be using “fake” guns that can still be dangerous??
They could use a cap-gun and add the sound later.
There’s no need for this crap to even happen.
Just ask Hexum
Because it’s in the script?
Correct.
I think he was supposed to do a scene where the bullet went to the camera - there are many scenes where you see the gun pointed at ‘you’ (the camera) and a shot if fired.

This is why we need to teach gun safety in schools.
Is “faulty prop” the euphemism for a “real gun”?
Horrible for all involved. My one thought is: how much energy goes toward *Covid* safety protocols even in a false security sense?
And then actual health and safety goes ignored. It’s a parable for so many scenarios all over the country right now.
Since Baldwin has a documented history of unprovoked violent and abusive behavior (beating up paparazzi, public verbal abuse of his own daughter, etc), I would withhold any judgement about this being a mere “accident”.
Just Sayin’.
Not entirely accurate. The "wadding" is propelled and becomes a projectile, yes, but the hot gases pushing that wadding or any projectile--they do damage too, especially if contact or near-contact range at a thin bone area (the temple or eye)--the gases can alone break the bone and then go into the target with great force and expand internally and tear and break tissues and bones. On a contact head shot, the bullet has already gone in (and often out of) the head while the slower gases are still entering and expanding, and the expansion does more fracturing than the bullet itself. A blank can kill this way, even if the "wadding" is just a thin flimsy paper disk holding the gunpowder in the cartridge, with the gas being the "projectile." Plus--anything already in the barrel ahead of the wadding or hot gases, such as metal fragments, plastic fragments, etc. from previous firing (whether of real ammo or blanks) or whatever was placed into or fell into the barrel from carelessness or malice (dirt, gravel, sand, salt, ice, snow, bb's, airsoft plastic pellets, etc.), or anything in between the muzzle and the target, such as a glass plate, a wood wall, a steel door, etc., can all be propelled secondarily and become projectiles that can maim or kill.
Certainly a moral responsibility. I'm assuming he fired only one shot, if two he has a problem. If it was a defective blank, you're probably correct about no charges against Alec. Whoever was responsible for the checks could have a problem.
It was an actor named Jon-Erik Hexum who shot himself in the head with a blank.
I would think a prop gun would be unable to discharge a projectile in any way…..No?
Pepe Lives Matter posted an old tweet o Baldwins - chilling, God must have been listening -

Sounds like an old Magnum episode with Dana Wynter in Baldwin’s role.
