It's taken how long for someone to think of this/to do something?

I would’ve thought that they ALWAYS ran 24/7, Good Times or Biden. ;)

Why wouldn’t they have a contingency plan for this already

“Import congestion at ports has caught the attention of the Biden administration...”

So you thought things were screwed up before...

Betcha Union influence is hampering this along with liberal policies.

Run like everything else in Cali, poorly.

They can offload containers 24/7 but then they have to go somewhere. That requires more trucks and truckers at some point.

So they are going to test working a second shift? That’s very progressive thinking.

They've been thinking about it for a long time. In fact, I've done a lot of work in this area and have always come to this same limitation:

Craig Grossgart, senior vice president of ocean at SEKO Logistics, said about 35% of appointments are going unfilled "because truckers don't want to pull at night because the distribution centers aren't open."

So you are a driver and you pick up a shipping container at 11:00 PM. The distribution center where you are supposed to take it is an hour away but doesn't open until 7:00 AM. What the hell do you do for the next eight hours?

Prolly by rail as well. Reminds me of a couple of months ago when I took a trip out west and saw train after train after train loaded with shipping containers headed east bound. Most were static like the tracks were backed up. These were looonnnggg trains mind you.

They were waiting for the leadership of Biden/Harris to marshal something or other.

Not a shipping crisis. A trucking crisis.

What happened to the port they were building in Mexico to bypass all this high priced labor and featherbedding?

I cannot believe that these ports have not always been on 24 hour operation.
