Fact Check-The U.S. prescribes ivermectin to refugees for parasitic worms, not COVID-19 (Reuters: Context matters)
Reuters ^ | 09 04 2021 | Reuters Fact Check

Posted on 09/14/2021 12:57:01 PM PDT by yesthatjallen

Outrage has spread online that Afghan refugees entering the United States will receive the drug ivermectin although it does not have U.S. approval as a COVID-19 treatment. However, the posts miss the vital context that refugees are given ivermectin for infections unrelated to the novel coronavirus.

The claims originated on Twitter when users shared a screenshot from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website saying that all Middle Eastern, Asian, North African, Latin American, and Caribbean refugees should receive ivermectin two days before departure to the United States (here). Internet archives suggest the page first appeared on April 3, 2021 (here).

One tweet posted on Sept. 2 reads: “Guess who is getting IVERMECTIN before they arrive. AFGHANISTAN REFUGEES!” (here). Another expressed anger that U.S. citizens were encouraged to get “the vaccine”, presumably referring to immunisation against COVID-19, but had difficulty getting hold of ivermectin (here ).

SNIP

However, none of the documents states that refugees should be given ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19. The CDC webpage depicted in the tweets states that ivermectin is administered as a “presumptive treatment for intestinal parasites” (bit.ly/3n4g2eq), a fact repeated in the 2019 CDC document (here , page three, paragraph one).

Ivermectin has long been used to treat parasitic infections in humans and animals, but the products are different. This is explained by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (here , here) and the UK government (here). However, the FDA says it has received multiple reports of patients being hospitalised after using ivermectin intended for horses.

VERDICT

Missing context. The United States recommends certain refugees receive ivermectin to treat parasitic worms, not COVID-19.

The so-called 'fact checkers' are themselves engaged in obfuscation.

They state "ivermectin has long been used to treat parasitic infection in humans and animals". In the next paragraph they state "none of the documents states that refugees should be given ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19."

The question the so-called "fact checkers" left unanswered is how long has it been US policy to give refugees ivermectin to treat parasites? The last 20 years? The last 10 years? The last 5 years? The last 6 months?

Who checks the fact checkers' facts?

I’ll wait here for Fauci or the CDC to ridicule Afghanis as mere animals, worthy of livestock medication. Otherwise, they would have given those people ‘human’ meds. /s

Missing the point.

MSM has been trying to demonize Ivermectin as “horse medication” and portraying those that take it as some kind of tin foil crazy person. They want to hide the fact that it is perscribed to humans and that is the very reason it won the Nobel prize.

Ivermectin can be prescribed for human use as a “presumptive treatment”.

Even \your\ doctor can prescribe it to you.
Food for thought...

The point is, it is approved for use in humans.

Off intended purpose prescribing of medications takes place
every day in this nation.

Playing hard-ball on this is very likely resulting in dead
patients.

First they lied and said it was a horse medication, now they are saying it's so indispensable for humans that prescribing for covid might create a shortage for other ailments! https://t.co/pCmfvuipGT— Daniel Horowitz (@RMConservative) September 14, 2021

Ok - they're getting ivermectin to treat internal parasites - so follow-up and see how many of them get COVID then.

I get the point. My point is Reuters is hiding the fact WHEN refugees start taking ivermectin.

If the US has been giving refugees ivermectin for decades that's one thing. If they only started giving them ivermectin in the last year that's another.

If it's only been in the last year or less it would show the government believes ivermectin works against Covid-19 and is safe for humans.

Yup. That's key.

But I bet they also play a little game --

"How are you feeling?"
"Well, sir, I have a lot of fatigue, and I think I have a bad cold, or something, and I have lost all sense of taste and smell."
"I see, -- hey, nurse -- did you swab this man's nose?"
"Yes, sir."
"Results?"
"Not good."
"I see. Well, I can only do a quick diagnosis, but it sounds to me like you have worms. I'm recommending Ivermectin for you. It's very good for ... worms."

I thought it was safe enough to give to children.

If it's safe enough to give to children, why do they have a problem with adults evaluating available evidence and, of their own free will, taking it?

If there is concern that it might be harmful, why not shut down the snack food aisles in the grocery stores? They are demonstrably harmful. Or outlaw cigarettes? Or alcohol? (And we all know how that worked out.)

Reuters is being racist by saying that all the Afghani refugees are infected with parasites.

Personally, I think it should be available, and in the proper dosages for treating the Wu flu. But then I don’t see anything in my copy of the Constitution that says the government has any business telling me what I can put into my body (of course one is responsible for what they *DO* regardless of what they put in their body). If you can legally buy cannabis, booze, and cigarettes what is the point in restricting something that at the worst might make someone a bit sick? Heck, even if it does nothing at all it might be a potent placebo.

Any why are they giving refugees, people who have suffered greatly in their lives, a drug meant for LIVESTOCK?
