Democrats Try To Hide a $3 Trillion Tax Increase From Voters
Reason ^ | September 13, 2021 | Ira Stoll

Explaining a newly leaked House Ways and Means Committee plan to raise taxes by $3,000,000,000,000, a Wall Street Journal news article reports, "Rep. Richard Neal (D., Mass.), the committee chairman, has said that detailing tax-increase plans too soon can give too much time for opposition to build."

Neal had explained his reticence to The New York Times in an interview by comparing his behavior to a man trying to seduce a woman into marriage, postponing full disclosure until the wedding guests are seated and the bride has been walked down the aisle. "I'm likely to hold off on the pay-fors until we are at the altar," Neal said.

Legislators with more respect for the deliberative process than Neal has may want to dash for the chapel exit before it's too late. What does it tell you about the Democratic leadership's view of the American public that they need to keep their plans secret until the last minute, for fear that the public might figure out what they are doing? Imagine how it would feel to be engaged to Neal, without knowing precisely what bad news he's planning to dump on you once the wedding ceremony is underway.

The details that have escaped so far make it easy to understand why Neal was so eager to keep them hidden from the public.

The most dismaying aspect is the brazenness with which it violates President Joe Biden's repeated promise not to raise taxes on anyone earning less than $400,000 a year. As recently as September 3, Biden said, "Here's the thing you need to know: We're going to deliver these investments without raising taxes one cent on anyone making less than $400,000 a year."

Even if this passes, they will never get 3T in new taxes from it.

As long as the media is on board, the dumb masses are incurious and indoctrinated.

One day, when I’m long gone, the dumb masses may put together that their high taxes have something to do with their poor living conditions. But I wouldn’t bet on it.

Is this for real, or is this the Babylon Bee? This sounds like Babylon Bee satirical humor.

So then, Democrats don’t want details of what they are shoving down our throats?

If they are so damn convinced that these tax increases are what is needed for our country, why the heck wouldn’t they proudly publicize what they plan to do?

Who pays the corporate income tax? Shareholders...

Well, not entirely. Anyone who buys products from a US corporation is going to pay at least part of the tax. Where does the gov't think the money comes from to pay those increased taxes? Think really hard, Mr. Neal...those funds come from consumers and, my guess is, not all of them make over $400,000 per year.

I can't believe major policy makers are that dumb (well, except for AOC). The only possible explanation is that they are lying to all of us.

Used car salesman - high pressure sales tactic. Don't think, act now! Same BS they try with "gun control" laws.

You know it and I know it but does that matter to the “Progressives”?
July 2021 Federal tax receipts exceeded the previous record by $60M. That’s without a tax increase. Will they even notice that economic activity slows down with any tax increases? (The Clinton/Gingrich Tax increase was coupled with a spending decrease. People jumped in thinking this really was ‘The End of Big Government’. Don’t get fooled again.)
Nothing has happened yet. Continuing as if it won’t but when it does we are going on ‘slow roll’ like we did with Obama in office.
Good luck!

“Imagine how it would feel to be engaged to Neal, without knowing precisely what bad news he's planning to dump on you once the wedding ceremony is underway.”

So, he is going to treat us to the fiscal equivalent of gonorrhea or syphilis that the new bride discovers in about 60 days after the honeymoon during a checkup at the doctor.

The below is a weak analysis. Anyone doing budgets for a company knows that taxes are a cost of doing business and like all others are first of all passed along to the customer. Only if the company subsequently has a problem with sales price, do they look to their vendors and work force for savings.

“notes that corporate tax increases also affect workers: "their wages and other compensation, fall.’”

In the Democrat mind, there is no such thing as overtaxation.

In their mind it would be optimal to tax income at 100.00%,
because then the populace would pay a premium on top of that
just to have a job.

I don’t explain ‘em. I’m just telling you what they’re
thinking.

Most of the increase is on the Trump-hating rich, so they can fight this if they want, but don’t count me in. They demanded this crap, they can live in it now.

They would never get 3 trillion dollars. Rich people will put their money in banks outside the country. They will have their property appraised low for tax purposes. They have lits of accountants and they own a few politicians to help make sure that they are not the ones being taxed on their wealth. The people in the middle are the ones that will pay. Inflation will make them wealthy.

I know, but I’m done carrying their water and being attacked for it, especially by them. If they don’t want to pay 60% marginal rates, they can ‘write their Congressman’, because I ain’t doing jack anymore...and hopefully Trump’s supporters in DC will do the same, which is nothing.

These a-holes are no better than the Welfare Queens, who NEVER say thank you to us for helping them out (and some do need help)...let the rich rot.

I can’t help wishing that tens of millions of Americans will go in a tax strike if the government continues to rob us blind with crazy tax increases.
