ALBANY — Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who has been staying with one of his sisters in Westchester County in the final days of his third term, recently has asked staff members at the Executive Mansion if anyone would like to keep his dog, Captain, who has remained at the state-owned residence after the governor moved out last week.
Two State Police sources told the Times Union on Saturday that the governor had recently asked mansion staff members if anyone would be interested in caring for the dog. Captain — a high-strung mix of shepherd, Siberian and malamute — has nipped a few people since Cuomo adopted him in 2018, the sources said, and a mansion staffer recently took the dog home for a few days but decided he was too much.

Anyone who would discard or abandon his dog in such a manner...This tells me even more about Cuomo’s character.
He didn’t care about the lives lost at the nursing home, let alone the life of his own dog.
Not even housebroken. That’s abusive.
A state governor can’t find someone to train his token dog?
If you have a high strung dog they need lots of exercise for sure.
Some dogs like to “zoom”—high speed obstacle course running around the house—hilarious if you have stairs...
This is a lot of fun for kids of all ages...
Better for the dog.
Yeah, esp when they bite your face....
We don’t have a young woman. dammit.
When they are zooming they are not biting, they are having a blast...
Bless you for taking in that poor dog!
A few years ago, husband and kids walking our pups in the hills behind our home when a beautiful young boxer came running out of the bushes - starving, ribs showing, ect., no collar, tags - and wasn’t chipped we found out later - he’d obviously been dumped to fend for himself.
Husband called and said he was bringing the pup home. He was super friendly and looked to be a purebred.
We had two dogs and two cats at the time and couldn’t keep him. Husband found a boxer rescue group who took him right in - he was adopted out almost immediately.
If it were now, I’d keep him. But we’re retired now and have a lot more time.
You know, it’s like the vehicle you drive.
Why would you buy a Hummer, if you live in the city? I mean, I get it, you’re making a statement.
Same with the dog you own. Why would you buy a cold weather, slid pulling dog, if and keep it penned up in the house, if you live in Southwest USA?
I get it, you want to make a statement.
Like I said, I might be wrong about the breed, but if you’re looking for excitement, there’s plenty of that in border collie
I read Fredo was taking a long vacation...and we know what that means.
So, we’re talking about the husky, malamute mix living in the city, not an igloo.
High strung dogs do not belong in apartments, but they do fine in large houses if they are allowed to zoom—that was my point.
Also, those two breeds rank pretty low in intelligence. The book THE INTELLIGENCE OF DOGS ranks dogs by intelligence. There are 79 rankings. Huskies come in at 45 and Malamutes at 50. They are not at the bottom, but they are not particularly bright. People need to take in dog intelligence as a factor when choosing a breed (if they get a purebred dog). A dumb dog will be hard to train and create frustration. Ever wonder why many little lap dogs yap their asses off all the time while straining at their leashes? It's because most of them are pretty stupid and have not been or could not be trained to behave.
“I’ve NEVER seen a good example of that breed. They’re sneaky. They turn on you. If you try to domesticate them it’s a disaster. Some people have suggested that it’s because the brain cavity is too small for their brain.”
They say a dog becomes like the owner, or vice-versa
Good. Now the criminal proceedings can start. LOL
Yeah. The figure if the can’t feed ‘em the will thrive in the Disney version of nature.
Can’t be too harsh on the (actually I can) remember in the bad old days in the old country Hansel & Gretel were left in the woods to their own devices.
Why, what on earth do you mean by that???
I love dogs. I would take Cuomo’s dog, but he’s a Dem and probably has some listening device inserted under his skin. /s...maybe
Good dog needs a juicy steak.
Demonrats always leave behind their pets.
thank you... no longer needed
