I think Huskies and Malamutes are beautiful dogs. However, I have never seriously considered getting one because their exercise requirements are so great. On the Dogs 101 program on Animal Planet, they said a Husky needs to walk at least 6 miles a day. In hot areas like Texas (where I live), that is totally impractical.

Also, those two breeds rank pretty low in intelligence. The book THE INTELLIGENCE OF DOGS ranks dogs by intelligence. There are 79 rankings. Huskies come in at 45 and Malamutes at 50. They are not at the bottom, but they are not particularly bright. People need to take in dog intelligence as a factor when choosing a breed (if they get a purebred dog). A dumb dog will be hard to train and create frustration. Ever wonder why many little lap dogs yap their asses off all the time while straining at their leashes? It's because most of them are pretty stupid and have not been or could not be trained to behave.

Surprised to see the Jack Russell Terrier ranked so low. I’d heard over and over they were one of the smartest breeds. Another media myth, I guess.

RIP Eddie

I see that poodles are #2. I think standard poodles are amazingly beautiful. We don’t have dogs, but there are so many that would be nice to have.

Dead bottom of the list, Afghan hound.

Just sayin’...
