Been raining here in Northeast PA since about midnight Saturday. Mostly gentle to steady. Now it’s been pouring for about two hours. Good thing I didn’t waste any time doing yard work - it’s only going to grow back :)

My dear late DH, Jim, and I once took a course in weather forecasting when we were in our sailing mode. The one thing i learned was that meteorologists can explain the weather— AFTER it happens!

But— still very interesting subject!!

It’s hard to forecast with a system that is not stationary.

It’s like hitting a constantly, randomly moving target.

I love our house and area where we live (Granby area), but man we ALWAYS lose power here... Even sometimes (for no good reason) on a clear, sunny day. We've been sitting here in the dark since 3:45pm ☹️

Eversource claims that the power should be restored here by 11:30 tonight. We'll see.

Overall, Henri turned out to be a big NothingBurger... Fortunately.

How are you, Biggirl? Good to see you! Yes, we certainly did get a ton of rain. We’re supposed to get more tomorrow, too, unfortunately.

Every house in my community was destroyed (Fair Harbor) except for the three houses built by the man who built mine.

He covered the entire floor with a continuous sheet of battleship linoleum and only then put up the walls. When the hurricane came, the three houses were washed off their pilings and were floating unharmed in the bay.

It was a minor problem to haul them back to their pilings.

That is a wonderful story! It actually reminds me of a similar story told by none other than Janet Reno. I believe her mother built their cabin/home, which survived something like Hurricane Andrew. I was never a fan of Janet Reno, but I recall the pride in her voice when she spoke of her solidly built home.

As she sits in the dark and tells us Henri was a nothingburger...LOL!

Glad the storm lost a lot of its punch before landfall. Hope you are back on the grid now.

"Years ago, when Hartwick was a top team, It was soccer town USA. "

Hardwick was originally named Lambstown after my family name, Lamb. We trace our family roots to that area and the original people who came from England and settled there.

See here.

Historical Sketch of Hardwick, MA

THIS town was purchased in 1686 of John Magus and Nassowanno, two noted Indians, for the sum of £20, New England currency, and a deed taken by Messrs. Joshua Lamb, Nathaniel Page, Andrew Gardner, Benjamin Gamblin, Benjamin Tucker, John Curtiss, Richard Draper, and Samuel Ruggles, of Roxbnry. The heirs of these persons upon petition obtained a grant of the tract from the general court in 1732. It was called Lambstown, from the first-named proprietor, until it was incorporated in 1738, when it was named Hardwick.....(snip)

(Now you know the origins of my FReeper name too)

It’s always a nothingburger to people not affected by it.

Henri veered very unexpectedly to the west.

We haven’t gotten yet what was forecast, but that’s still later today before we find out for sure. However, it is going to miss us in that the center of the storm will not be going over us.

Right now it’s overcast, gusty/breezy, and very pleasantly cool.

Sorry, I meant Hartwick College in Oneonta NY. However I really like Harwich MA on the Cape, not familiar with Hardwick.
