Simone Biles, the superstar gymnast from the U.S., will not participate in the individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Games and will instead focus on her mental well-being, USA Gymnastics said in a statement early Wednesday.
The decision comes a day after she pulled out of the team all-around competition.
Jade Carey, who finished ninth in qualifying, will take Biles’ place in the individual all-around competition.
"After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games," USA Gymnastics said in a statement posted on Twitter Wednesday night. "We wholeheartedly support Simone's decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many."
The statement said Biles will be evaluated daily to see if she can "participate in next week’s individual event finals."

So she took a knee. Of course she did. She wasn’t about to take less than the gold
And she knew for SURE she wasn’t going to win one of those. NO WAY was she going to stand below anyone on the platform and watch them take what she deserved, was entitled to. So she did what any head princess who knew she was about to be out-princessed would do; she walked away. Great job princess. You showed everyone what you’re made of: no sacrifice for anyone ever and no second place for you ever. You will NOT be outdone by anyone. You think.
Shtruggle. LMAO!!
I don’t follow the Olympics so my take on this could be way off, but here’s what I think...
She pulled out of the team competition because she placed more importance on winning an individual gold and didn’t want to risk an injury in team competition.
After she did that, and everything knew why she did it, it was made clear to her that her she should take herself out the individual competition.
Either that, or this has something to do with sports betting.
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. It’s so difficult for black people that the NFL, NBA, MLB and NCAA have mandatory racial quotas for black athletes to ensure they are able to compete. (No sarcasm tag needed.)
Quitting? Let the coach pull her if her performance was hurting the team. That is what the coach is there for. But to quit because of the stress of not having your best day?
She embarrassed herself more by quitting than hanging in there to fight back from her mistakes or talking to her coach or team psychologist. Instead she puts on a big drama scene?
The problem when an athlete ‘quits’ is they never recover from it. Whatever is going on in her head, she is done. Endorsements for a little while, but she’s over.
Americans are fine with someone who loses, they will not tolerate a quitter.
As if the Olympics matter. LOL. Who cares?
Well, the Tokyo Olympics are racis......meme in 4, 3, 2, ......1 !
Shtruggle. Lol!
By dropping out, she lets another gymnast take her spot.
A point that I made on another thread yesterday. Is it possible that USA was able to salvage the Team silver because Biles withdrew? I don’t know how the team competition gets scored.
Clearly this is a mental collapse. Like having your ace starting pitcher hit the first 2 batters in the first game of the World Series. Tough to recover from and it puts your team behind the 8-ball.
Oh my goodness, how brave! /s
I wonder who got denied a chance to go because she hogged a spot she didn’t deserve? That’s who I feel bad for.
“Simone Biles, the superstar gymnast from the U.S”
You aren’t a superstar if you won’t take the floor.
After she did that (removed herself from the team competition), and everything knew why she did it, it was made clear to her that her she should take herself out the individual competition.
Sounds like the gymnastic team called a meeting and forced the issue. We’ll hear soon if that happened. Can’t keep a lid on that.
Well, there are neuro-degenerative disorders associated with the vaccines, could account for forgetting to steer.
Please for the love of God, quit judging someone who has done far more with greater abuse and stress than many of us have ever experienced. Give her credit for accomplishing with no human being has done before and quit demanding almost superhuman physical, mental, and emotional strength all at once!
I am so desperately ashamed of the judgment spewed so self righteously on this board.
No you aren’t an incredible athlete if you withdraw at the first adversity. That is the most basic rule of being an athlete and sports. She is a failure. Furthermore she stole the spot that rightfully belonged to someone else who didn’t get to go to Tokyo and wouldn’t have taken the cowards way out.
If this was a white girl she would be universally reviled.
Britain rowed into Italy’s lane? That is a strange coincidence, especially after Italy beat England in the Euro.
I don't believe that. But, if a white athlete were reviled for dropping out, I'd have the same question: Why is everyone so upset?
Then again, I'm not a sports fan, and not even the Olympics are interesting to me these days.
Because she’s a quitter and a sore loser.
