Thousands Of Ships, Millions Of Troops: China Is Assembling a Huge Fleet For War With Taiwan

To have any chance of conquering Taiwan, China might need to transport as many as two million troops across the rough 100 miles of the Taiwan Strait and land them under fire at the island’s 14 potential invasion beaches or 10 major ports.

That’s a lot of people—far, far more than the People’s Liberation Army Navy can haul in its 11 new amphibious ships. To transport the bulk of the invasion force, Beijing almost certainly would take up into naval service thousands of civilian ships.

To that end, the Chinese Communist Party has created a legal and bureaucratic framework for taking over control of commercial shipping. Meanwhile, naval engineers have begun modifying key vessels to make them better assault ships.

All that is to say, the vast flotilla that would be both the vehicle for China’s assault on Taiwan—and the biggest target of Taiwanese forces and their allies—is taking shape.

“If the PLA invasion force was a million or more men, then we might expect an armada of thousands or even tens of thousands of ships to deliver them, augmented by thousands of planes and helicopters,” Ian Easton, an analyst with the Project 2049 Institute in Virginia, wrote in a recent report.

The PLAN’s eight modern Type 071 landing docks and three Type 075 big-deck assault ships together can haul around 25,000 troops. A drop in the bucket. To transport the balance of the invasion force, the Chinese navy can take up around 2,000 large commercial vessels crewed by around 650,000 mariners.

I disagree. This may be a good thing...that is, exposing China for the paper tiger it is. Now if Biden sent our ships and troops to help the chinks, it would be bad. Granpa Badfinger doesn;t know what planet he is on, let along the difference between China and Formosa.

Are the “progressives” aka Commies in the US going to promote that war to aid Taiwan on their captive media? “Biden at the helm of the ship of State tonight, leading our expanded military efforts as we show videos of the gallant forces of the USA heading to the conflict.”

Weren’t they sick of the endless wars with maimed or killed Americans and the US finally leaving without anything accomplished?

“If they can provoke Taiwan into responding to one of these incursions, then they can use it as an excuse for invasion claiming Taiwan struck first.”

Hmm, reminds me of Ft. Sumter.

There is also a rather obvious attempt by the CCP, much like any bully, to try and goad Taiwan into attacking. Look at the recent incursion into Taiwan’s airspace by the CCP as the most recent example. If they can provoke Taiwan into responding to one of these incursions, then they can use it as an excuse for invasion claiming Taiwan struck first. I’m convinced by their actions the Taiwanese are not falling for these pathetic attempts to start a war.

They'll just make up something, like the Nazis did when they faked the attack on the radio station at Gleiwitz to claim that Poland started the war.

Maybe, just maybe, the Navy could pause its fight against American white people and focus on a foreign enemy?

Little Ray: "They don’t really have do any of these things, though."

Your post #22 are my thoughts exactly.
Plus, no doubt the Chi-Coms have plenty of friendly Taiwanese to support them.

But it's not yet a "done deal".
And remember, Taiwanese refugees are unlikely to vote for the party of Kamala Biden.

100 miles of open ocean isn’t exactly the English Channel and doesn’t provide good conditions for a surprise amphibious assault on Taiwan. Wǒmen jiàn dào nǐ!

Why would China want a shooting war for Taiwan?

They are doing way better than they were back in the 1940s and 50s.

They want to risk possible annihilation because their grand parents were mad about Taiwan?

Seems like a stupid risk to me.

Now, threatening to fight with Taiwan to turn attention away from China’s internal problems?

Probably so.

It not the number of bodies (400 million), its the loss of face - not to mention the total destruction of several major cities and the associated loss of income to Party members. That loss of face and money would mean the CCP has to inflict the same or greater damage on whomever was stupid enough to physically destroy the dam.

In other words, that action would trigger a full scale nuclear war and the US would lose 10s of millions of Americans. China has something like 126 DF-41 MIRVed missiles - each with 10 warheads, yielding between 20-150kT each, their range is great enough that the entire continental US is vulnerable. And that’s like 260 more warheads then either the US or Russia - both limited by treaty to 1000 each.

China does not do “social spending” - there is no such thing as Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, or other handouts. Its strictly up to the family males to provide for the entire family until death.

Knowing the above, how many still want to destroy the dam and trigger a nuclear war?

Before any invasion happens China must convince its weak snowflake soldiers to board the ships. Will they take a sufficient number of counselors and pleasure girls to keep the morale up?

Right, and specifically for turning attention away from Xi Jinping’s flagging leadership, miscalculations, and horrible decisions.

President Biden has continued to sell arms to Taiwan.

More pro-Taiwan legislation is working its way through Congress. It is bi-patrician.

Japan has announced that they Consider the survival of Taiwan essential for the security of Japan. That allows Japan to fight China without violating their pacifist constitution.

Australia is already talking about fighting China alongside the United States over Taiwan.

France and India have started doing Freedom of Navigation operations in the South China Sea.

I think China wants to win without a fight because they are scared of losing. A loss over Taiwan could lead to a loss of power for China’s Yi. Some say it could destroy the CCP, but I doubt that.

The United States needs allies to counter China. China has no friends. They are trying to get Russia to fight with them, but that is not likely. Russia has already sided with India in the China-India conflict.

I think everyone is trying to play 3-D chess without having to fire a shot.

The United States has a wildcard: Full diplomatic recognition of Taiwan. That would be a nightmare for China, especially if they are unable to take the island.

No, and the ChiComs have never occupied Taiwan. Taiwan is where the nationalist forces fled after being defeated in the civil war, after they helpfully defeated the Japanese while the communists sat back and waited.
