Speaking to the nation’s largest teachers union, President Joe Biden said Friday that the pandemic has given America’s parents the “ultimate education” on the challenges of the teaching profession. But even more, he said, the last year has proved that teachers across the U.S. deserve higher pay.
“You deserve a raise, not just praise,” Biden said in remarks at the National Education Association’s annual meeting in Washington. “Every parent in this country who spent the last year educating their children at home understands that you deserve a raise.”
Biden made the case while selling his proposed legislative priorities and budget for next year, which includes $20 billion in new funding that aims to spur states to increase teacher pay. A close ally of teachers unions, the president went on to describe educators as “the single most important component of America’s future.”
Biden and first lady Jill Biden gave remarks at a mostly empty Washington Convention Center while union members watched virtually. Biden is the first president in recent history to address the labor group, whose 3 million members include his wife, a longtime community college professor.

Teachers took in and grew the NEA to what it is today — huge and leftist.
(Gimmedat raise, days off and gold health insurance.)
Teachers stood silent when God was taken out of pubic schools.
(Gimmedat raise, days off and gold health insurance.)
Teachers allowed the NEA to turn leftist, feminist, queer and now CRT pushers.
(Gimmedat raise, days off and gold health insurance.)
Teachers’ union dues and NEA support leftist Democrat and their policies.

Teachers’ unions join with other unions to push votes for D’rats and union-preferred school board members.

Teachers’ role in swinging America left is undeniable and indefensible.
Self-aggrandizing — it’s what teachers are best at. They are brave. They are important. They are proud. They are awesome. They are special. They build the future. They are the most important workers in America. Just ask them.
Self-aggrandizement is the term I use as well. That and their constant demand for more and better compensation for less and worse education - preaching to the students how underpaid they were.
These are largely mediocre people holding our kids hostage.
This last year has been quite the education on the nature of the Teachers Union.
Given many of them proved last year they are expendable, they should have their salaries cut.
Joe should realize….. teachers do pretty damn well.
They all need to be fired. Worthless educators who teach nothing. Nothing but propaganda that is.
So the entire profession deserves a raise? LOL. Typical collectivist thinking.
How many of Sleepy’s 81m “votes” were stuffed or harvested by Woke Teachers Union activists. We’ll never know of course thanks to our corrupt courts.
Actually, if raises were based on performance (student outcomes), they deserve a sizable pay cut.
Most of my friends chose education degrees with the following criteria in mind
1. Long summer vacation
2. Multiple holiday and spring breaks
4. Work day ended on “the early side”
5. Least challenging degree to obtain
So many deserve neither.
“They’re doing an incredible job turning our kids into violent, America hating radicals.”
The good teachers aren’t leaving education because of money. And the pay isn’t what is keeping good people away.
It’s all the crap that comes with being a teacher in 21st Century America that has led to that.
It’s no surprise that most (not all) of the teachers remaining are mindless, talentless leftist drones. That’s by design.
Pay raise for what? They have been slacking on the job for a year and a half in many venues.
Oh, there are hard-working and highly dedicated teachers out there, always have been, But the profession has also attracted a lot of ideologues, those who were looking for an “easy” college credit and cheap diploma, and those who just had some underlying sadistic streak that want of manipulate children, those with skulls full of mush.
The child-tamers and the messianic indoctrination specialists are a real damaging factor in the upbringing of our youth, and the “easy path” ones are producing lasting harm to children by turning off all desire to even attempt to learn, living lives out in a vacuum.
We need teachers, and always will, but their worth should be determined by merit, not seniority. And merit may be a very difficult thing to access, especially by school boards that “go along to get along”.
Teachers are part of the Democrat base.
Teacher pensions and heathcare bennies are already bankrupting taxpayers.
And getting them tossed out of their homes when they can’t foot the bill.
I think parents who have spent the last year homeschooling their children have gained an accurate understanding of just what their children are being taught (CRT, etc.), and those who can will either continue homeschooling or send their children to private schools.
On Chicago talk radio, there are commercials for private schools that are “half price.” It appears to be a booming business.
The way I see it:
Teaching today can be incredibly difficult if you’re a good teacher that wants to teach real stuff. In many districts, everything is standing in your way. Awful administrators and policies that prevent you from controlling your classroom and giving out the grades that people deserve. Forced indoctrination either due to explicit policy or a result of having to teach to a test that has been taken over by leftists (Example: AP U.S. History). Parents that don’t give a damn. Kids sexting each other in class. Stupid colleagues in the teacher’s lounge. And the list goes on. Good people can only put up with that for so long.
On the other hand, if you are a leftist idiot who just goes with the flow, it’s nine months of dull work, three months of play, and people act like you’re a hero. Not bad.
