Hurricane Elsa

Tropical Storm Elsa has developed in the central tropical Atlantic Ocean, about 2500 miles east of the U.S. mainland. Interests in Florida should monitor updates to the forecast for this system, but it is too soon to determine what, if any, impacts could occur there next week given the uncertainty in the long-range forecast.Elsa is moving at a rapid clip, which may limit strengthening in the short term. Also, the potential interaction of the storm with the mountainous land masses of the Greater Antilles later in the forecast period could disrupt the circulation somewhat.

Just wait until there's a Hurricane Greta!Hurricane Greta (1978) made landfall in Belize, traversed Central America, emerged into the Pacific Ocean and was renamed Hurricane Olivia. The name Greta was retired following the 1978 season.

Yeah, that’s one thing you learn living down here. What’s projected to be a tropical storm hitting the north Gulf Coast today could change quickly into a major hurricane hitting anywhere in the Gulf basin five days from now. My wife went to Savannah for three days, and the day before she left there wasn’t a hint of any weather. Then a tropical low formed which turned into TS Danny and she spent all of Monday indoors. That one had a weird retrograde track to it, too. Moved SW and we got a bit of a soaking from it here.

I sure hope it comes nowhere near the Miami Beach area further impeding the rescue, or at this point sadly likely the recovery efforts.

Media goons are salivating at the thought, and discussing the possibility with each and every update from the building collapse site.

I thoroughly enjoy watching hurricanes ... from a distance. I’m wondering if I should ping the AL state list. Elsa may affect us, too soon to tell.

At least we know if there is ever a Hurricane Psaki it will just keep circling back on itself. Permission to steal your work?

An impressive storm which keeps its stack and strengthens while moving at such a fast clip.
LOL--thanks for your vote of confidence.

I just realize how much I miss Rush Limbaugh.
He ALWAYS said the early forecast tracks were usually wrong, and he would patiently wait to see where it went as any particular storm got closer.
Let us, the Free Republic Hurricane Hunters, be reminded of this logical approach!
