Tropical Storm Elsa has developed in the central tropical Atlantic Ocean, about 2500 miles east of the U.S. mainland. Interests in Florida should monitor updates to the forecast for this system, but it is too soon to determine what, if any, impacts could occur there next week given the uncertainty in the long-range forecast.Elsa is moving at a rapid clip, which may limit strengthening in the short term. Also, the potential interaction of the storm with the mountainous land masses of the Greater Antilles later in the forecast period could disrupt the circulation somewhat.

At least they've not yet used the name "Ilsa."
Those memes would get out of control real quick.

Great story!
I am on the perpetual 6-8 week wait list for my tree trimmings. Three weeks ago and again this week, tree man said it will be 6-8 weeks...

Elsa. I believe that was the name of the lion cub in the movie “Born Free”. I can still hear the Andy Williams theme song.See post #8.

"Hurricane season starts June 1 and ends November 30"I have never understood why they have such a long season for hurricanes. It seems to me that if we would shorten the season, it would reduce the number of storms.

I don't usually rely on the GFS model for guidance, though it is noteworthy that close to half of their ensemble runs are taking Elsa past Cuba and into the Gulf toward New Orleans.

Thanks for your valuable input. Much appreciated. Time will tell. The tracks into New Orleans appear to anticipate the storm system skirting Cuba completely. Interesting.

Yeah, the upshot here is that nobody from Lake Charles to the OBX can ignore this storm... I wouldn’t be taking any kind of serious action yet, of course, but keeping tabs on it. It’s like dropping a ball into a danged pachinko machine.

At least we know if there is ever a Hurricane Psaki it will just keep circling back on itself.
